Re: Noka
I ate at the kitchen bar. Tasty, imaginative cocktails and I loved the edamame toast. Pleasant service. But for the price and the theater of breaking apart its terracotta casing with a mallet, I'd have expected the duck not to be dry. The bathroom was something else. Once I wrassled the enormous cry...

Re: Martini Corner near 31st/Gilham
Meanwhile, September & October at the Uptown is great, plus I feel like they've invested a little bit of money into it recently, was in much better shape than the last few times I've been. Ok, I’m being old and set in my ways. I’m going to break my boycott of the Uptown and give them another sh...

Roanoke Park has volunteer-built trails all around it.

Maybe it's less wild than you're looking for, but I do love Cliff Drive/Kessler Park. It's been my pandemic sanity saver.

Re: COVID & Carryout
I've had good carryout experiences with places already mentioned (Affare, Il Lazzarone, Ravenous), a couple of breweries (Alma Mader, Strange Days), and tonight Bob Wasabi. It wasn't like sitting at the counter and watching Bob work, but we do what we have to do. And it was delicious.

Agreed. I saw it a month ago and still think about it nearly every day. I keep nagging my friends go so I can talk about it with someone.

Really impressive. Beats the hell out of Topeka! Topeka has quite a few interesting things to look at and do such as the North Topeka arts district, you can also tour the beautifully renovated state capital, they have a railroad museum in their old depot north of the river, they have several beauti...

Re: Slovenia for 7 nights
The parts of Slovenia I saw were lovely. We stayed at a charming cottage on Lake Bohinj and wandered around, ate a lot of the local trout and went on a terrifying (to me) horseback ride in the mountains. Very nice people everywhere we went. Then again, you wouldn't be *that* far from Salzburg or Vie...

Re: Freshwater - Midtown
If I'm going buy it on the trafficway (which does seem like a possibility, given the amount of time I spend on it or near it or crossing it), I want to be eating at Freshwater. My one meal there was so imaginative and delicious, and very reasonably priced.

Re: wtf is happening to w. 39th?!
Meatball District has reopened, but Sultan's has closed, which makes me very sad. They'd branched out from their delicious pastries into shwarma and falafel, both of which were quite good.

Re: Midtown Apartments
The obsession with being able to park 10 feet from wherever you want to be --work, restaurant, home -- is fascinating to me, and something I hadn't come across until moving to KC. Friends in Longfellow had a neighbor who would leave a nasty note on the windshield of anyone who had the temerity to pa...

Xroads: Cellar Rat doesn't have a patio, but dogs are welcome inside and will get treats and fussing. (Would not recommend this when it's crowded for a tasting or First Friday, though.)

Re: favorite under-the-radar mexican places in the kansas city area?
Has anyone ever gone to Jarocho's seafood? Love this place (the KCK one). You're right -- it doesn't look like much from the outside, but there's very high quality food inside, reasonably priced. There's a lot of interesting stuff you won't find anywhere else in town. And watch for dollar oyster ni...
