Re: 13th Street Bar & Grill

According to an employee there, the owner hopes to have a liquor license before St. Patrick's Day, possibly as early as Valentine's Day. With the booze comes longer hours as well, but I'm not sure how late it will stay open. I guess the plan is to have mostly imports on tap.

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What has Minny won?  1 playoff series, barely beating Oakland (another small market) back in 2002.   Gee.  That's thrilling stuff. Terry Ryan is a great GM.  Yes, a good GM (Oak, FLA, Minny) can make your team win games.  But ultimately, it doens't change the fact you're at a major disadvantage.  M...

Re: hopeless

The Royals have virtually zero chance of being "good" long-term.  We have two massive problems that will prevent it: 1)  Horrendous ownership - cheap & detached 2)  A league devoid of competitive balance I asked a Royals homer one time:  "Do you think the Yankees or Red Sox will ...

Re: Worst intersections for pedestrians

I have found that during rush hour, especially when it gets dark early, crossing the intersection at Walnut & Independence is a hassle. Most cars never come to a full stop, and the drivers make no attempt to look for pedestrians because they're only looking to see if a car is coming in the other...

Re: Sky Box

I can see Skybox from my windows, and it's not unusual to wake up to fights, screaming, honking horns, gunshots, etc. I've watched as people were being arrested. And it's a joke that the owners attempt to blame it on the area. In the time between its opening and the time Kabal closed, I never heard ...

Re: Apple's new hardware

I don't know if this has been mentioned here, but Apple has already been sued by Cisco Systems over the use of the name iPhone. Apparently Cisco has owned the name for more than six years, and Apple has been trying since 2001 to get it. Apple claims there is no foul because its the first company to ...

Re: Sanibel Island, Florida

I was on Captiva Island, which is connected to Sanibel's northside by a short bridge, during Christmas week. It was very rainy the first couple of days, but the weather cleared and I got a hell of a sunburn over the last few days of the trip. The water was somewhat cool, but it wasn't bad after gett...

Well said, Max.

And this thread is a fine example of how quickly things can become tainted when the name Phill Kline is mentioned. I'll enjoy this discussion while it lasts.

Re: George Brett's on the Plaza

Yeah, the nachos need some work on the cheese distribution. There is just a big pile on very top, leaving the chips below without a delicious layer of cheese. But I do enjoy them with the chili. Overall, the food was what I expected of a bar. And the beer always seems to be very cold. I like that. A...

Re: Cheap Drinks? Good Atmosphere? Good Live Music?

I went to Ponak's Mexican restaurant on Southwest Boulevard Saturday night and they had $2.50 Boulevards. Food was pretty good too. Check out The Nadas tonight (12/14) at the Hurricane for a good show. One of my favorite bands. Scooter, how's the Zoo Bar? I walk by that place all the time on my way ...

My wife and I will be celebrating our first anniversary. We had a great party last year on New Year's Eve. I'm not sure what we'll do to follow that up this year.

San Francisco lost its ace pitcher this year when Jason Schmidt ju...

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really don't like the Meche signing. What will this investment bring them? Maybe a 90 loss season instead of 100 at best? The AL Central is going to be tough for many seasons to come with young, talented teams like Minnesota and Cleveland. Meche is no better than a middle of the rotation starter, ...
