Re: Generic ongoing KCATA thread

Gillig, for now. There are actually at least four "Buy America" options for traditional (40') battery electric transit buses: BYD, Proterra, New Flyer, and Gillig. There are also vendors that rebuild existing buses as battery electric. Gillig will deliver their first vehicles in 2019. KCAT...

Couldn't they make the money by charging for parking? Or at least a reasonable amount? Like, why free? Garages aren't profitable because of the initial cost + operating overhead. That's why they're often incentivized, municipally owned/managed, or dedicated to one user who can cover the losses. Her...

Re: Cordish projects in other cities

As I mentioned elsewhere, I'm in Norfolk for a few days and our hotel is near the Waterside District -- a small Cordish project that renewed an existing water side development originally built in the 80s on the Elizabeth River. It's more on the scale of 4th Street Live! in Louisville. Tenants in com...

Re: Light Rail Systems And Routes In Other Cities

I've been in Norfolk for a few days. Their system is basically a streetcar -- it has lots of street-running sections and doesn't really go fast outside of the urban core (may 35mph on the east end). They run single car consists. Most of these shots are showing the track placement, because I'm trying...

KCATA will start buying battery electric buses: https://twitter.com/RideKCTransit/statu ... 9677685760

Currently, the fleet is less than half compressed natural gas. The rest is diesel.

The new vehicles should be on the ground in 2019.

Plenty of empty storefronts and possibilities there, it should help bring the funkiness to the west.

Re: Muehlebach Hotel / KC Club Project

It makes sense long-term if the City is considering rebuilding the Barney Allis Plaza parking garage, or losing some of that parking to the UMKC campus. They will need to provide alternative parking for the convention hotels that use the BAP garage while a new garage is built, or if spaces are lost...

Re: Muehlebach Hotel / KC Club Project

I've asked the city manager (on Twitter, anyway) what the source of funds is. It seems odd to commit the city to this for 25 years with nary a word or action by the Council. I suspect it will come from "parking revenue" -- which is meter and ticket revenue. Irony noted!

It'd be interesting if every streetcar published accidents per mile rates. I wonder where we fall on the spectrum.

It’s low, even for US streetcar systems.

My guess is they can probably cover rent on just their weekend brunch crowd. That spot near the market is golden.
