Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

There’s a preliminary schedule for “six-car” service. Six would never run at once, but four would run with regularity May-October, pending 2019 budget approval. Obviously 805 and 806 must arrive first.

No. We have a dozens of those right now, heavily subsidized.

Re: 1800 Walnut

Have brought up in past idea of City buying lot along streetcar in Xroads and building a mega garage (surrounded by retail) that serves entire district. This frees up developers to build other surface lots not having to factor much parking while those losing the lot can use the city garage. The pur...

It appears they've finally landed a tenant: Main Street Tavern is seeking a restaurant liquor license for 1524 Main, which is the retail stall in the garage.

Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown

It would be a good guess that Helzberg was one of the partners, but it would just be a guess. She pretty much owns 17th Street.

Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown

I could find no owner on the parcel viewer, but I assume that Shirley Helzberg owns it, right? 17th/Broadway ownership is unclear. Downtown Council created a nonprofit to acquire the property and prepare for development. They won't divulge who the rest of the partners are. Kauffman Center definitel...

That was the vacant parcel east of the Kauffman Center. The 17/Broadway site has only been targeted for the Conservatory until Greitens screwed us.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Must meet Buy America and have the investment in a facility to maintain such a large vehicle.

So just as you propose more vehicles you are adding frequency compared to streetcar, which also makes that comparison unfair (and would be operationally more expensive).

That's not possible. Even an articulated bus can't match the capacity of one CAF streetcar. Our region doesn't have a facility that can handle artics.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

One interesting behavior worth noting: When we replace the streetcar with "streetcar link" buses, ridership plummets. Lots of ways to read that and we don't have actual data as to why, but just leaving it here to digest. The level of service is identical -- as is the route, except for the...

Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown

I was very much under the impression that a downtown campus was part of the impetus for the streetcar running to UMKC. BAP certainly is not my pick of sites but, it beats the hell out of 63rd street. Not the impetus, but certainly a benefit. With ~300 students on site it would certainly generate so...
