Re: Muehlebach Hotel / KC Club Project

Couldn't they make the money by charging for parking? Or at least a reasonable amount? Like, why free? Garages aren't profitable because of the initial cost + operating overhead. That's why they're often incentivized, municipally owned/managed, or dedicated to one user who can cover the losses. Her...

Re: Muehlebach Hotel / KC Club Project

It makes sense long-term if the City is considering rebuilding the Barney Allis Plaza parking garage, or losing some of that parking to the UMKC campus. They will need to provide alternative parking for the convention hotels that use the BAP garage while a new garage is built, or if spaces are lost...

Re: Muehlebach Hotel / KC Club Project

I've asked the city manager (on Twitter, anyway) what the source of funds is. It seems odd to commit the city to this for 25 years with nary a word or action by the Council. I suspect it will come from "parking revenue" -- which is meter and ticket revenue. Irony noted!

Re: Aggressive panhandlers

saw the aggressive couple mentioned in the OP all the way down by 51st and main today. never seen them outside of river market - cbd - crossroads before. but then i'm rarely outside of that area myself. I've seen them on the MAX. The man is the last person to have used a slur on me, I believe it wa...

It'd be interesting if every streetcar published accidents per mile rates. I wonder where we fall on the spectrum.

It’s low, even for US streetcar systems.

My guess is they can probably cover rent on just their weekend brunch crowd. That spot near the market is golden.

Re: Bike Lanes

Physically protected bike lanes would help but is still baffling to me that Grand was chosen for main bike path when it is also a major bus route. I use Walnut instead and have noticed others do too. It will be less major without Main MAX, unless Independence MAX goes there (which *might* be in ser...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Yet again we see Dave is sitting in coffee shops for hours serving as a notary for the mail in election process. This has to be the biggest deal thing he does because unlike collecting signatures -for- it during the petition process he’s being a notary for people voting against it too. Selfishly, i...

Kirkwood Hotel

Heard talk of a “big story” in The Kirkwood development south of the Plaza: a hotel. Not sure if the flag but the talk indicated it might be “controversial”.

Anyone heard?

Understood. I try to be more transparent than the rest of my peers. You can always ask and I'm usually able to tell.
