Re: 14 Story apartment tower - Westport

I'm happy that the developer and neighbors were able to find some common ground, but I'm sure there are other building materials than brick that would accent the feel of Westport. Does the parking garage, strip mall or Sun Fresh area make the area more cohesive just by using brown brick everywhere?...

Re: 14 Story apartment tower - Westport

There were some (raising hand) pro-density and pro-development where it makes sense but don't tear down 'the essence' of Westport as there is no one building that defines it - so the older buildings, especially since this was a functional one. It is a reasonable stance to encourage keeping the buil...

Re: 14 Story apartment tower - Westport

the least complex explanation is that the opus project triggered a stronger response because it will demolish an old building. that's my vote. That's probably true for the initial response. They definitely dropped the "save the old building" thing towards the end and went with density and...

I hope the owner has sense enough to relocate somewhere else.

Re: Freshwater - Midtown

Glad to hear the owner wants to rebuild but it's got to be tough as it involves a loss of income for himself and all employees during the process. It's unfortunate that there is absolutely no buffer between the restaurant and what is one of the main traffic arteries of the city from south to north ...

Re: Brookside

I feel like Midtown is very safe in terms of walking, I walk my dog at midnight a lot without any issues at all. I think the thing I think that hurts midtown walkability are the Major North/South Roads cutting thru it. At almost any stretch of them they act as basically a freeway, SW Trafficway is ...

Re: Brookside

Tried to go to Julian back in October with out-of-town family. Was completely dead (albeit weeknight), had to wait quite a while for the one front of house staff member to acknowledge us, inquire about seating. Looked a little run down. No Celina. Ended up at Carmen's nearby. The writing seemed on ...

Re: Gun Violence in KCMO

"Gun violence?" " ____ violence" is the real issue. If you have a brain at all you'll be able to fill in the blank. The demographic committing these shootings are almost always from single parent homes with no father around. You seem to be hinting at something,... but I ca...

Re: OPUS at Broadway Blvd and Westport Road

I'd actually prefer new developments just go more modern. The idea that getting a developer to slap some brick on the side of their building to make it 'fit with the neighborhood' doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Westport is a mosh mash. We should just be pushing for higher end finishes and walka...

Re: OPUS at Broadway Blvd and Westport Road

I guess this is better late than never, but the CPC meeting for the zoning change for this project is tomorrow. If you support this project, please email Patty Noll and express your support, it only takes a few minutes and makes a big difference! There will be a lot of people opposing this project a...

Hey Everyone, There will be a public meeting with OPUS on Wednesday (5/3) at 7PM at Tower Tavern (401 E 31st St). It will be hosted by Old Hyde Park Neighborhood Association, however anyone is free to come to the meeting. If you are in favor of this project, I would urge you to come out and support...

Re: OPUS at Broadway Blvd and Westport Road

The second one you posted is the newest one I have. Besides the additional brick, a few small changes facing Westport Rd, and the rooftop deck covering, I didn't notice much. I'll hopefully be meeting with the developer in the next week, I'll see if I can get any more info. Is there anything you al...

Re: Westport Terrace at Manor Square

Maybe I'm in the minority on this one, but the design of this development reminds me of something that would show up on McMansion Hell (http://www.mcmansionhell.com).
