Re: Making downtown more pedestrian friendly

Via Twitter , this just happened at 36th & Wyandotte: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DFR7OFgUwAA-nNS?format=jpg Does anybody know the story of how this happened, and how we can make it happen basically everywhere? Yea! About 8 months ago I started a committee on the OHP neighborhood association to...

Re: Streetcar Opposition

kelly's and the levee donated to smartKC, according to their latest filing: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bx1_a32nv3z2dzRDRU1pVVBGZDA As did Pulse Development and Block Co. - sort of goes against the "developers" being for the streetcar movement. Interesting, I wonder if that's why th...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

Putting a new garage on 5th street is going to cause headache traffic congestion and eliminate a vital spot for residential/retail. It doesn't need to be right next to the City Market, it needs to serve the City Market. This would be the best block to build a new parking garage serving the City Mar...

I was wondering the same.

Re: OFFICIAL: Penn Valley Park (Ideas+redeveloment)

I like the ideas for developing PVP, but I don't think it will ever be successful until it is directly connected to neighborhoods. The first step should be redevelopment of the mere two blocks between Linwood/Wyandotte and the park. This will make the park accessible to Midtown. Connections should ...

Re: Westport

W End up Summit has a mix too for such an historic area. Realize it's subjective but there are some really bad examples, like the bland ranch homes thrown between grand homes in Roanoke area and Jansen Place. Those ranch homes on Jansen are a tragedy. I'm surprised some haven't been knocked down ye...

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L

...and less fussing about bricks. Good god yes. There was a perfectly reasonable plan put forth recently for townhouse at 34th and Baltimore that was just torn into by some on our neighborhood assn. The reason why? They were too modern. For god sake, they were attractive, hid their parking, and did...

I agree with everything on this list except for the certainty he will sue. He has been working with the city attorneys in recent years to make his petitions legally valid. The odds certainly aren't zero but you can't say "will" at this point. i can, and i did, because he will. something w...

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L

Midtown overall could use a 'stop turning Midtown into suburbia' campaign, with a high level master plan the City can agree to enforce, and more detail per district. ...and less fussing about bricks. Re: 14 Story apartment tower - Westport

I'm happy that the developer and neighbors were able to find some common ground, but I'm sure there are other building materials than brick that would accent the feel of Westport. Does the parking garage, strip mall or Sun Fresh area make the area more cohesive just by using brown brick everywhere?...

Re: 14 Story apartment tower - Westport

There were some (raising hand) pro-density and pro-development where it makes sense but don't tear down 'the essence' of Westport as there is no one building that defines it - so the older buildings, especially since this was a functional one. It is a reasonable stance to encourage keeping the buil...

Re: 14 Story apartment tower - Westport

the least complex explanation is that the opus project triggered a stronger response because it will demolish an old building. that's my vote. That's probably true for the initial response. They definitely dropped the "save the old building" thing towards the end and went with density and...

Re: Freshwater - Midtown

Glad to hear the owner wants to rebuild but it's got to be tough as it involves a loss of income for himself and all employees during the process. It's unfortunate that there is absolutely no buffer between the restaurant and what is one of the main traffic arteries of the city from south to north ...
