Re: Community Christian Church by Frank Lloyd Wright
My grandmother was a charter member of the church when it was on, I think, Linwood and Forest. At least it was near her house at 2818 Brooklyn somewhere. I remember Burris Jenkins being at her house at Xmas a few times. So was Rabbi Mayerberg (who must have been from the temple discussed in the stor...

Re: KC International Raceway Sold
The owner approached the City in january, 2011, with an offer to sell. He has been laying off the chance that he'll be labeled a sellout by saying the City condemned him. It was a negotiated purchase, is my understanding, set to close later this month. If it was condemned you would be able to see th...

Re: KC International Raceway Sold
As far as buying the raceway site using park development funds, why not use that money to fix up some of the parks we already have, or enhance them?[/quote] It could be used to either buy park land or enhance existing park land. However, Parks and Rec staff says the money has to be used within 1 mil...

Re: New KC Crime Lab/East Patrol HQ
We got off track here but there were stories at the time that the developer (18th and Vine Redevelopment Authority) would not rent to regular people who didn't have pretty high-powered track records. So the mom and pops and nail salons etc...weren't capable of opening in the district. Further, they ...

Re: New KC Crime Lab/East Patrol HQ
They required the facility to be in East Patrol, I'm told. It will serve downtown, Central and South Patrol, and most of the other cities in the region.FangKC wrote:Through all of this, I have wondered why they don't build and house the crime lab downtown

Re: New KC Crime Lab/East Patrol HQ
Even if you think it's OK to kick people out of their homes for wasteful and ill conceived projects, that compensation is a joke. You do realize, don't you, that people who don't want to sell by definition have a higher reserve price than what the market's offering? And that houses in that area are...

Re: New KC Crime Lab/East Patrol HQ
I think the site is big enough to provide for future expansion perhaps like south patrol. A helipad and swat facility. 128 parcels of which 13 are owned by the Land Trust, some were already for sale, maybe 16 dangerous buildings and 60 some vacant lots. The rest are maybe a few more rentals than own...

Interesting about hiring the firefighters, i wonder if that was contemplated. They could also fix the violations, depending on what they were, I guess. They could probably use the same off-duty firefighters maybe, as they always have side jobs in the trades.

Re: Misc Crossroads News
Its the notice that imparts the legal liability and the cause of action is based in nuisance in both situations. The immunity provides a cap in some cases, here there would not be total immunity.
At YJ's the nuisance the City allowed to remain is likely on City property.

Re: Misc Crossroads News
The problem with the City being more "business friendly" as noted above and again recently at YJ's is that: 1. Pretty soon you have inspectors picking and choosing which laws they want to apply against who; and/or 2. You have politicians and/or supervisors making those decisions based on...

Re: YJ's Snack Bar
per the city manager's office, there was no noise complaint . no doubt a faulty assumption repeated ad nauseum on facebook. it was a routine inspection months ago that triggered the initial request for YJ's to obtain a sidewalk cafe license. again, according to the city manager's office YJ's had no...

Great topic: Zeppi's in Waldo. Same recipes and decor as Funhouse today. Pileggi's in Waldo. We went there as a family for special-ish occasions until my dad saw a bunch or guys heading to the basement with briefcases chained to their arms. Patrikio's- it was on Paseo then and one of the few plac...

I'm pretty sure I remember a Quik Trip on the site where the new Board of Trade building is. Although I have a parallel memory of Jan's Liquors being there, too.
