Re: New goals for Kansas City

1. Re-Kesslerizing the Parks and BLVDs plan. Bike paths a la Trolley Track Trail down the middle of all BLVDs with medians, separated bike lanes on all others. Design standards for properties on BLVDs that prevent things like the north side of Gregory between Troost and Paseo. Traffic calming on BLV...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

I hope everyone realizes that now is a good time to channel all that disappointment and frustration into seeing this expansion passed. Actually, not "seeing it passed" but helping make it pass in concrete, real world ways. And I don't just mean voting for it. The options that remain to peo...

Re: Redistricting KCMO council districts

"It's pretty hard to say what growth trends will continue almost 25 years out, which is how far away the census after next is." So the next census after 2020 is in 2042? What about the one in 2030? Anyway, the Northland may not compose three whole districts but will have two whole and par...

Re: Redistricting KCMO council districts

I've be surprised if the Northland gets the majority of 3 council districts in the next census, or if the east side doesn't at least have 2. I'd be even more surprised if there any charter change to the current make-up of the city council. It's pretty hard to say what growth trends will continue alm...

Access to that spot is excellent and nearly identical to Kauffman.

Re: My wish list for the Northland

My wishlist for the Northland is new-urbanist (throwback term alert!) infill development in the inner Northland, especially along North Oak and infill along corridors where leapfrog development has occurred, coupled with significant de-annexation. Start with everything southeast of Gracemor/WOF, and...

The correct answer remains between Truman and 18th, from Paseo to 71.

Shut this thread down now.

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L

I'm not sharing their link. But here's a quote about why they need to Save Westport. Meanwhile, the building at the southwest corner of Westport and Broadway was recently replaced with a new restaurant and bar operated by the national HopCat chain. Another developer is currently revising plans which...

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L

The fact that they specifically called out the XO site project as a threat to Westport should be all the evidence anyone needs that the Save Westport group is woefully misguided.

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L

Interesting. I've never been in the bank, but walking by and glancing in, I always thought they were Bentons. They look cool. Hopefully BOA can save them regardless of the fate of the building. Apparently they were done by one of Benton's students, but not Benton himself. OMG! Save the Pollock Mura...

Re: Streetcar Opposition

Also seems likely to fail, because most voters in KC do not support the streetcar , much less an extension and that's just going to be that way for a while. wait until you see the next round of citizen satisfaction numbers. while not a poll of likely voters, it's moving up every quarter . Glad to h...

Re: Streetcar Opposition

Who do proponents of projects cede the use of petition for referendum to the opposition? Couldn't you use a petition to seek a referendum requiring the city to get involved? Seems likely to alienate cautious or begrudging allies, which would describe a significant portion of the council, to say not...

I would love to the the city work to creatively align the goals of Prospect Max with whatever the East Side Development tax is supposed to be doing. What's the best way to do that, TOD policy? There seems to be a pretty large disconnect between east side advocates and understanding that population l...

Another way of looking at it is that they're bringing 300 residents in, and charging for parking spots is going to cause a ton of spillover into the surrounding neighborhoods before their lots even get any paid users. Sometimes the best way to show you care about peoples' concerns is to ask them so...

I strongly support preserving old buildings to the extent that they are useful/usable. I do not support arbitrarily deciding that tall buildings don't belong in old neighborhoods because of horseshit like "scale", which is what this group is up to. Preserving empty sky. The historic "...

"Growing concern about the pace and scale of redevelopment"

"Danger of rapid change"

=

Anti-density NIMBY dog-whistle. Westport was literally founded and built on the premise of rapid change of pace and scale.
