Re: Is the term midwest to broad?

Embrace Pan-Midwesternism. pretty much, i've tried dissecting the thing, dividing midwestern cities into the three categories of river/lake/prairie (or rail) but the end result is basically a sandwich of prairie-type cities between a slice of river city and lake city. granted the sandwhich gets mes...

A position complicated by the fact that the phrase "middle west" was invented to describe a section of the Great Plains, namely territorial Kansas and Nebraska.

I think the big difference is one was the first incident. The other one was not, so, no one cares.

Re: We need a new airport!!!

That would be a 25% increase in turnout from the imaginary numbers we are sniping about, right? Which is a much larger percentage than those disenfranchised by the voter id laws we are always howling about. All snark aside, I've seen the data on voter fatigue. Yes, 3 elections per year is too fuckin...

three a year? come on...

I will not. And neither, apparently, will like 92% of other eligible voters.

Re: Independence Ave MAX

I pretty much disagree with all of that. why? (serious question) I basically think there should be a grid of routes that are as straight as possible, frequent as we can afford, and as long as realistic. I don't like split service routes, L shaped routes, U shaped routes, etc. The routes should be n...

Re: Independence Ave MAX

I'm ambivalent. I like the MAX service, and it's about the only ATA service I use, if I can help it, mostly because of frequency and stop comfort. But is there a point when the ATA's resources would be better used upgrading TroostMAX to BRT than continuing to build out new MAX lines? Is Independence...

I assume you mean north of Brush Creek. What about Ivanhoe, Squier and Manheim Parks? Are they "midtown" in your scheme?

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Three out of four of the plaintiffs' complaint is they allegedly don't have access to transportation or a computer, so they couldn't vote against the streetcar. Oh the irony. Even more ironic: 3 of the 4 live closer to both a public notary and a post office than to their respective polling places.
