Re: HopCat at Westport/Broadway

cool...they seem to value out-of-doors beers, which is the only way to fly. they are building an allegedly large back patio where none existed.

Re: HopCat at Westport/Broadway

what is y'alls opinion on this place? we are getting one in u-city and i imagine that i will frequent it quite often. all the "cool" non-chain brewery/beer bar stuff goes to the city, so i'll take a midwestern chain beer bar anyday...i mean it looks ok. i imagine it is..ok.

Re: St. Louis Sewers

this is insane! “We have a very fast-flowing, managed river that’s really constructed for commerce,” says Hoelscher, the sewer agency’s CEO. “We don’t have beaches. It’s not used for recreation.” In short, it’s a river that doesn’t need a lot of coddling." there's a HUGE sailboating/boating com...

Re: Shanghai trip/photos

Great pictures. I note the haze in the area in all the skyline pictures. Is that just humidity or is it pollution? I hear Beijing can be particularly bad and would not be surprised if Shanghai had similar issues. I've never been to China. Would love to go there and Japan. My company has (and has ha...

Re: Shanghai trip/photos

Very interesting. Makes me kinda want to visit China, although I'd hate to go solo since I'm not Han. Which may be somewhat true, but probably deserves harsh punishment. boatloads of europeans, americans, south americans, some africans in shanghai. outside of central shanghai not so much. a place d...

Re: Shanghai trip/photos

Thanks for sharing--how did you find getting around? Pretty simple? yes, actually. the shanghai metro - although vast - is very modern and it's very simple to buy tickets. english is everywhere...older people were harder to interact with, and would get on my case on the HSR for things like not stow...

Shanghai trip/photos

I've just returned from China, thought I would share some photos. I have more instagram photos which I am currently shuffling through that have more transit related stuff that I may post. https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2867/33982083985_1275ed4d86_o.jpg https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2824/33596931390_1...

Re: KC to STL Hyperloop

i've just returned from china, where they are building bullet trains all over the place (that i rode) like we build (whatever we build) that go 200 mph. even the rail line that only goes from the shanghai airport to central shanghai goes 200 mph. i'm way jetlagged so i don't know what my point is ot...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Another airport anecdote. Just flew in and out of Seattle. It's a big airport but it took me about 5 minutes to get off the plane and get to the baggage claim. After collecting luggage, I was out of the airport in a few seconds. Albeit, as I was taking light rail, the walk to the light rail termina...

Re: Clayton, MO CBD Boom (Centene, etc)

there was another proposal on hanley further north that was shot down, probably the neighbors torpedoed it. kind of dumb considering that hanley already has a little residential highrise cluster. i'd almost rather see more slender, tall highrise stuff along there than these squat, chunky proposals t...

Re: Clayton, MO CBD Boom (Centene, etc)

I heard Clayton described as a second downtown for StL a decade ago. Clayton has been described by a lot of names: 1. "The New Downtown" 2. St. Louis' "Second Downtown" 3. St. Louis' "Uptown" 4. St. Louis County's "Downtown" Unfortunately, while downtown Clay...

Currently, Downtown Clayton is whooping Downtown St. Louis as far as New Construction is concerned. Here are the latest proposals. At the current rate things are going, Clayton is seeing 2 New Proposals every Month. https://nextstl.com/2017/02/nine-story-16m-mixed-used-project-announced-forsyth-cla...

Re: Clayton, MO CBD Boom (Centene, etc)

i can kind of understand the annoyance with the amount of rush hour traffic (which isn't really terrible unless you are on hanley southbound to I-64). it's a strange situation...there's a desire for higher density office environments in st. louis, but the demand is in every central corridor node exc...

Re: Wow...National Love for Both the Lou and KC

the riverside neighborhoods have a lot of heavy industry, so did large areas of the northside of chicago, which proved that its something that can be remedied. in any case *massive* swaths of the city are mostly removed from heavy industry like southwest city, maplewood, richmond heights, u-city, et...

Re: Nashville?

nashville is sort of next door to us, even though until recently there wasn't much interaction. it's trendy now for successful st. louis restaurants/brewers/etc to set up a nashville location, and i'm seeing a lot of creative flow from chicago to nashville. nashville is definitely on fire right now,...
