Re: KC's quirks and oddities (keep it light)

^Yeah, end result is what matters. A friend of mine in Hyde Park is obsessed with making the most out of the cheapest/crappiest meats she can find. i do that as well..my latest obsession is smoking BOTTOM BIN chuck steaks and roasts. user: warwickland has furnished me with a copy of this recipe, wh...

Re: KC's quirks and oddities (keep it light)

sometimes i brine thick cut porksteaks, especially if i get them extra thick from the butcher and have them cut the butt right there. even smoke-grill them at a medium temp like 325. however, some schnucks (or shop n save) stores carry ultra thin sliced pork steaks and this schnucks brand bbq sauce ...

this is an interesting one for missouri...showing kc (plus lawrence) and st. louis area (and how it spills out especially into the upper ozarks).

Re: KC's quirks and oddities (keep it light)

missouri is kind of a weirdo state compared to the rest of the midwest, because there isn't a hard historical barrier like the ohio river. accents are kind of on a more subtle gradient with pockets obviously like st. louis or even mutant south city-ozark accents like jefferson county. the mutant acc...

Re: KC's quirks and oddities (keep it light)

https://hoofin.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/the-aschmann-map.png some notes: this one is also a mess but at least makes a hellofa effort. chicagoland not having a sub-dialect on here is weird, though. same with wisco...although there is an area south of the wisco border well west of the outskirts of...

Re: KC's quirks and oddities (keep it light)

kc has a hilarious (and really hard to pin down) old school (urban?) accent. this is actually a different accent than one i hear sometimes when i call my overland park office, and someone answers the phone with a super-lightish texas-y (plains?) accent. i guess it's all of the people that have move...

holy shit!

where will everyone be? its supposed to technically cross the sw corner of forest park, so i'm thinking about setting up shop there. somewhere a bit further south like the upper ozarks might be better here.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

St. Louis built in a way different time with a lot of federal money available....and traffic problems that spurred people to want other options. The capital cost to build the initial phase of MetroLink was $465 million. Of that amount, $348 million was supplied by the Federal Transit Administration...

cool...they seem to value out-of-doors beers, which is the only way to fly. they are building an allegedly large back patio where none existed.

Re: HopCat at Westport/Broadway

what is y'alls opinion on this place? we are getting one in u-city and i imagine that i will frequent it quite often. all the "cool" non-chain brewery/beer bar stuff goes to the city, so i'll take a midwestern chain beer bar anyday...i mean it looks ok. i imagine it is..ok.

Re: St. Louis Sewers

this is insane! “We have a very fast-flowing, managed river that’s really constructed for commerce,” says Hoelscher, the sewer agency’s CEO. “We don’t have beaches. It’s not used for recreation.” In short, it’s a river that doesn’t need a lot of coddling." there's a HUGE sailboating/boating com...

Re: Shanghai trip/photos

Great pictures. I note the haze in the area in all the skyline pictures. Is that just humidity or is it pollution? I hear Beijing can be particularly bad and would not be surprised if Shanghai had similar issues. I've never been to China. Would love to go there and Japan. My company has (and has ha...
