Re: PortKC launches new inland port development

This is a terrible part of the city, environmentally ravaged and blighted after decades of heavy industry I think this this is actually a really exciting project as labor and fuel continues to push overland truck shipping up and up in cost. Will be interested to see the final plans. I have read sev...

Re: PortKC launches new inland port development

a limiting factor for the missouri river is the last lock in the chain of rocks canal on the mississippi just north of st. louis, along with depth and all of the wing dikes. if they can scale these container ships down to work with that and still be profitable then great. all of the renderings of th...

Re: Big New STL Apartment Building

That's a shame. At least they didn't tear down the existing building first. a.) i hated this project from the start due to the unnecessary demolition of existing fabric. downtown st. louis is lousy with parking lots and giant garages. it just really made me question the judgement of the developers ...

Re: PortKC launches new inland port development

Interesting

I always wondered why there was so little river activity around KC and on the missouri river in general. must be some navigational reason for that, or maybe just inertia with most of the ports being on the mississippi in the state.

Re: Interstate 70 KC to St Louis

Perhaps one thing that would help with passing would be making I-70 three lanes between Kansas City and St. Louis. I have wanted to see that for a long time. I-70 is probably the most important part of Missouri's highway system and KC and STL are large enough cities (with Columbia in the middle) to...

Re: Interstate 70 KC to St Louis

Just drove this weekend and I'm so done with this stretch of interstate. Its an absolute nightmare to drive. To many people drive in the left lane and refuse to get over so u have to pass in right lane. Truck passing is horrible on this stretch also. I really think Trucks shouldn't even be allowed ...

Two different business owners in the area have told me there are plans to turn the El Torreon into a nightclub with dining, entertainment and dancing.
that's basically what all the XstraightedgeX hardcore shows that i went to there were.

Re: StL Blues break ground for new practice facility in StL Co

I could honestly see the next Blues Arena being built in the burbs also, following the line of thinking with the Braves new stadium. I'm sure Blues country is much larger in the West County areas rather than South County and the Illinois Side as far as i know, the financing on the scottrade renovat...

Re: Lions Choice

lions choice is getting all kinds of weird praise from stl foodies lately and i think there's like lions choice donuts and fried rice and shit (or something). to me it's a place i go when i need some grease in me at work and then i immediately regret. beats the pants off arby's, though. I hope so, L...

Re: Urbanism and Pros and Cons of Gentrification

To echo one of chaglang's points, i think the effects of gentrification in KC are more felt among renters than buyers. It has always been true, even in KC, that folks will seek out "marginal" areas so their money will go farther in buying a home, which can result in these neighborhoods becoming mor...

centene 2 is about topped out, this photo is a couple months old but has glass going up the sides of it now. it's really a monolithic presence in clayton and looms over even university city, now.
