Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

The city has considered development of the three lots at 5th and Main for a couple of years. The SE and SW corners would be apartments and some retail along 5th with their own parking needs served within. The NW corner of Main at 5th would be a multistory garage which would contain all of the parkin...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

I am fond of buildings that are four stories or less, but I'm curious why some are concerned about buildings being too tall?

What's the issue for you?

There is an aching need for 10x, 20x, 100x the ground level retail space.

And a slightly different view.

Go ahead and get that north loop decommissioned and champion building something meaningful on it.
It just might turn out far better than you can imagine.

And while you're at it, would you please tell all those people from the suburbs to stop moving downtown.

Add to the mix, the recent discovery that submerged piers have eroded to an disturbing degree.
I understand that many informed on the subject don't use the bridge any longer.

Does anyone know of any organizations or companies downtown that are offering summer internships or would be willing to? Generally in realestate, transit, or anything to do with growing downtown. Check with the Downtown Council. They generally utilize interns over the summer and otherwise might be ...

You also have to pay to play, but the Urban Core Group has been providing adult field trips for many, many years. http://kcurbancoregroup.com/ At one time they were a 'free' gathering that introduced people to downtown properties, businesses and developments of interest. They still provide that link...

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L

Take a look at yesterday NYTimes article, recounting the Frugal Traveler's visit to KC. He was at Arthur Bryant's and in talking with a local (Leawood?) and Frugal shared that he was going to Westport. The local told him to be sure to be out of Westport before dark, because it wasn't safe. Frugal ma...

A very accessible and informal option would be The Downtowners.
Dues free, this group primarily meets monthly at a luncheon and provides a guest speaker on topics related to the growth of downtown.

........a rooftop terrace with a dog park. In 1990 a couple from California unloaded their U-haul at one of the earliest loft developments in the River Market. After the long ride cooped up in the car, the husband took their schnauzer up to the rooftop deck to get some fresh air. He decided to thro...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Seems on days like these the streetcar doesn't have the capacity to handle the traffic it has, let alone people parking and riding to the city market. So, the popularity of the streetcar is a problem...? It's a 4 or 5 block walk from endless open parking at 7th and Main to the City Market. Kansas C...

It's not a feed shed, whatever that is. It's a quonset hut, one of the most innovative and practical pre-fab building designs of all time. It's cheap, efficient, practical and I think it's beautiful. Beauty, after all, is in the eye of the beholder – whether it comes from ashes or corrugated metal....

Re: OFFICIAL - East9 (former Pickwick Plaza)

If they are successful it might reflect that people are more interested in getting a place downtown for under $1000/mo than how many sf they're getting. I'd be surprised if that sf price would hold up on larger units. This is the key factor that they appear to be exploiting. There are a lot of folk...

The team that's developing Pickwick seems to be hitting on all cylinders.
A lot of energy being created through their efforts.

S & J Oyster Bar was located at Ward Parkway Shopping Center, on the East side - South. It was a great concept and well executed, but only lasted a couple of years. It was rumored that the owners spent the profits partying, and then some.... Robin Williams said in the '80's that "Cocaine is...
