We should NEVER again make ANY sidewalk more narrow.

If that's what you meant by 'shortened'.

Re: OFFICIAL: Penn Valley Park (Ideas+redeveloment)

Has there been any discussion about expanding the WWI Museum footprint? It's been several years since the last remodel and I'd love to see a larger building that could hold more aircraft and even ships (The Chicago Science and Industry Museum has a submarine). There is plenty of space in the park a...

I was around downtown when that work was being done too.
Workers were swarming the "Telephone" building on scaffolding with hand-held jackhammers.
They leveled off the outer skin of the building, filling endless dumpsters with terracotta detail.

The Frederick is a great, historic renovation that was done with a gentle touch.
The unique character was nicely retained.
They also did a great job of sourcing cool and simple furnishings.

Again, Jeff Stehney is quoted as saying that he will never open a Joe's in the state of Missouri.

Guess this is his way of staying true to his word.

i hear lots of buildings are offering deals or lowering prices. how long does that happen before projects in the pipeline start to get jittery? OK, I looked up the CID statutes . And as I suspected, no, that's not correct, loftguy. Changes in taxes assessed under a CID, and appointments to the CID board, must be approved by a majority of "qualified voters". These are defined at §67.1401(14): I'm not qualified to interpret the sta...

Re: A vision for 8th St between Main/Broadway as pedestrian only

You are right. 4th Street east of Grand has in fact been vacated by the city. It is no longer under public control. Since they're now in private ownership someone needs to buy up all the properties along that corridor and create a village. 300 units of housing and a retail pedestrian mall sounds good.
