Re: Union Station
Well, in the future, freight needs might be completely different in the Metro area. A new freight yard is being built near Gardner, Kansas. And there is the intermodal facility at the former Richards-Gebuar air base in south Kansas CIty. The point is that freight movement around the area is changin...

Re: Union Station
With this picture I can now totally see why it will cost so much to bring commuter rail to Union Station: https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/Oe_bU71FZLVAfPs6uolRjONHDgfBKTkLtcxd1Epgx8M=s209-p-no I know, most likely pie in the sky, but it would be nice if KCMO figured out a way to buy Two Pershing Sq...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
One more thing to help me make my point. Most LRT systems do function more like streetcars in downtown areas (Baltimore, Denver, Salt Lake City etc), but they don't tend to do that for several miles. KC's system will be built as a streetcar system (slow and frequent stops) throughout, which is fine...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
A little derail of the issues but thought you all might get a kick out of this. I love the aesthetics of the old streetcars. Too bad we did not have the foresight to save the originals. This is pretty cool find http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/article-2707414/The-train-graveyard-Photographer-captur...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
Tried to find this answer in the search function but could not. So...out and about last night. The friends and were talking about the streetcar. Some questions came up that I had no answers for. Why did we not pursue an elevated rail line? Isn't that cheaper and a fast mode of transportation? I am s...

Re: Troost developments
This has been said before but one of the most intriguing buildings on Troost (and the whole city for that) is the firehouse @ 4518 Troost. Saw in 2012 on this forum, it was being bought up by a adjacent church and was burglarized for metals in 2011. Has anything else came in the last 2 years about i...

south of the river election pretty much has to be in 2014, by the way, given that council elections are in 2015 and e-tax renewal part deux is in 2016. anything past that and barry's out of the white house and who knows what will happen with federal funding. let your neighborhood leaders and counci...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
don't just focus on what's there today, think about development capacity (the city's ROI for building the thing): - main street to UMKC ranked high in every category, with 31st close behind - south of UMKC drops below them in every category - other corridors were all over the map so, yeah, your pers...

Re: Layoffs at The Star
Royals beat writer Bob Dutton is leaving for Seattle. The Sports department has been absolutely decimated in the last year or so. Kent Babb to DC, Brady McCullough to Pittsburgh, Mike DeArmond retiring, Adam Teicher to ESPN, now this. Terrible place to work? Peanuts for pay? Or just better opportun...

Drove by these today. We need to get on this, too beautiful of buildings to waste on the prospects of an unknown project. If the concept was beneficial one would figure they would be more forthcoming with their intentions. Maybe a huge drive thru Jimmy Johns?

That sucks. Wish the current building could be used as more of an anchor for this area. Maybe whatever comes next will function better for the community.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
I feel the route to Waldo seems like the most solid idea of the three. Drove all the routes and it seemed like a great plan for our city. Independence the potential is there but 31st/Linwood I couldn't grasp. Hopefully our leaders make the best decision for KCMO.

Even though I am new here, that sounds lovely. This place is so easy to wonder around for hours. Imagine if alcohol was involved.

Agreed with Volker Dad. This would make perfect candidate for a chill neighborhood bar. Someone with some loot and a love for drinks should get on this: http://www.kansascityhomes.com/Kansas-C ... 36263.aspx

If I had the scratch to start, the first brew would be on the house my friend. Also, old school jukebox. None of this electronic stuff. A place has to have a soundtrack to fill it.

Re: Westside happenings
True that. It was even a risk getting back to this part of the country but it has paid off in spades. Kansas City is home and wouldn't want it any other way.
