Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

the main issue for me would be them propping open the doors that lead to the residential areas. Not cool. And the garbage/rat issue. I've had that in my neighborhood when a food business moved into a place that hadn't had food before. To their credit, the city did help managing it and the problem w...

Re: Troost developments

Distrikt Biskuit House (I hate the spelling, but love the food) was supposed to be moving to 40th and Troost (NE corner), but it looks like that is off. I guess they're just going to share the Lutfi's spot on 63rd. It's only a morning operation, so it kind of makes sense.

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

They are ruining RM with successful development and density? That is a new one.

Regardless, you can park anywhere east or west of Main Street from Union Station northward and just take the free streetcar if it's too hard to find a spot.

Re: Historic Preservation in the Urban Core

I took the Historic KC Endangered Homes tour a few years ago. The tour leader for that KCK neighborhood did not mince words when characterizing the owners. I don't remember specifics, but I remember having very little empathy for their situation.

Re: Historic Preservation in the Urban Core

Good luck to them. Such a great, old mansion. The owner should be drawn and quartered for letting it go to crap the last 40 years.

Re: World Cup 2026 at Arrowhead?

Don't forget our Mexican and Canadian partners!

And also don't forget the round of 32! 16 more knockout games is pretty exciting.

There are only 3 teams in each group, but there are twice as many groups. The overall count is up 16 mathces with the new format. I think.

Re: Misc Crossroads News

I just realized I was wrong about something on Oak that's a key detail and it explains a lot. US 71 to downtown didn't exist in 1997, it wasn't finished as a road until 2001, so it wasn't that long ago that Oak would have been used for inbound traffic from the south. Get off 71 at US 56, turn north...

Great use of that space. If YJs is really moving to the old Sylvia's spot, that block could be getting a good boost.

Maybe time for someone to give the Coda/Pauly's/Jilly's spot another go.

Re: OFFICIAL - 21c Museum Hotel KC (former Savoy Hotel)

Are all the cocktails well drinks? It is weird how they list them. Some sound like they may be doing their own blends of Rye and Bourbon. They say "midwestern" gin - which I assume is something local. And American gin/vodka could be anything. Given their liquor list, I'm guessing "well" at this pla...

Closing apparently. A bummer as they have been pretty solid for a long time. Always wished they had kept regular evening hours, but suppose that was a lifestyle choice for the owners. Whiskey and Donuts was a great event! I was at that Whiskey and Donut event - it was great! This seemed inevitable ...

Re: East Bottoms: Former Ramada Conference / Howard Johnsons / Park Place

I don't think MCC offers any residential housing, do they? It's kind of a big step and investment to get into that side of the business. It seems the handful of community colleges that do offer housing are in more rural locations. Not a commuter school system like MCC. And if they did offer housing,...

That's interesting - thanks for posting. I just watched most of Casino about a month ago. KC really plays a prominent role in that movie.

Terrence O'Malley's "Blackhand Strawman" covered this particular part of KC crime history in some detail (the wiretaps were part of "Operation Strawman").

That is a bold move - hopefully they can improve the space. The 2nd Cancun Fiesta Fresh didn't seem to do to well in that spot.

I'm embarassed to say i've never been to the Beignet place in the RM.
