Re: We need a new airport!!!

Now that the single terminal has passed, I am looking at a map of KCI in Google Maps and wondering how they will be able to construct the terminal while keeping operations going seamlessly. It just doesn't look like there is enough space unless they encroach upon KCI logistical support off Paris an...

Re: Porchfest

They had a crossing guard to help at Valentine, but people were crossing 37th and 38th as well. People (and food trucks) parked on the Trafficway did help. I was concerned about those crossings, but it was pretty easy. I liked it better last year - but that may have a smuch to do with the weather as...

I did see they added Tom Green at the end of next March. In lieu of a band I want to see, I may use this as an excuse to see the place.

Re: Kansas City Music

In terms of tours booked in KC/Lawrence market, according to Pollstar it's pretty much on par for market size, maybe a bit more than some markets per capita. The article says we have more venues then some larger cities - like Min/Stl. So, maybe the ratio of shows-to-venues does mean it's harder for...

Re: Should Jackson Co. relocate the Correctional Facility?

You can talk equitable societies and unicorns all you want - we still need to maintain our crumbling infrastructure and do what we can to keep US prisoners from suffering through third world squalor on a daily basis. I don't think anyone disagrees with you about our justice system - but I think mos...

Re: Should Jackson Co. relocate the Correctional Facility?

I'm kind of thinking of a facility a la the Western Missouri Correctional Center and adjacent Crossroads Correctional Center, or the Potosi Correctional Center, Jefferson City Correctional Facility or South Central Correctional Center. As for location, we don't have a lot of polluted areas except i...

Re: Is the term midwest to broad?

I always considered ND, SD, NE, KS and OK as the Great Plains or Plain States - not the Midwest.

MO is tricky. Western MO seems more like the Plains - the Eastern parts are more like the South.

Re: "The East Side" crowdsource definition

Lines change. Lines do change, but Troost is the hardest line in this city, and it hasn't changed yet. (The biggest thing that could help that change, in my opinion, is much more development on Troost itself.) Troost doesn't really seem like a hard line anymore from downtown to 39th street. Maybe I...

Re: Confederate monuments in KC

The Atlantic had a pretty good article about the spike in Confederate memorials at the turn of the century after Plessy vs Ferguson when southern states were implementing repressive racial policies - and then again during the height of the Civil Rights movement. The case can be made that those monum...

I heard the last few rooms at the new Courtyard were going for $350/night. Anyone venturing up North from the city? There's a lot of talk about traffic being crazy. We're not sure where we're headed yet. By the way, we really should be using this thread... http://kcrag.com/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=1...

A lot of people complaining about the name having no following or that it's dumb need to remember that only a few years ago a BBQ restaurant was opened with an even worse name and became a huge hit...Q39. Would much rather see a place like Green Room down in the Crossroads than District that would likely not happen. Heck, I'd love to see a place like GRB down in Brookside/Waldo. Just a good place for a burger or sandwich with fresh ingredients that wasn't cookie cutter, some craft beer, nothing fanc...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

ok so instead of Clay putting forward comprehensive transit plans/funding mechanisms why don't we? Obviously the piecemeal TDD formation is going to be the central strategy for any future expansion efforts but why not also focus on city wide sales taxes? That's the singular reason I voted yes on Q2...

The reactions to a failed Chastain plan sure have..... evolved over the years. Somehow people are looking to move out of town because KC can't follow a level-headed visionary like Clay Chastain? I have literally seen everything. Can't wait for people to start erecting Mark Funkhouser statues in 5 ye...
