Re: wtf is happening to w. 39th?!

I'm looking forward to checking this place out.

However, their online presence (website and facebook page) appear to be designed to keep visitors away from their restaurant. Are they doing a soft opening and afraid of too many people showing up?

Re: wtf is happening to w. 39th?!

I think a Panera makes sense there. Seems like there's enough turnover on 39th that nothing local is being sacrificed.

It's not my cup of tea, but it should be pretty popular that close to KU Med (as mentioned).

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Shake Shack is slated for a September 6th opening. Old Navy in the former Gap space sometime this fall. I carried out from Shake Shack lasts week. The line was a little bit out the door, but I was in and out in under 30 minutes. I thought the burger was pretty good. By itself, it was reasonably pri...

Re: Uptown Shoppes

Broadway in Midtown used to be a residential street lined with houses. It changed over time to larger buildings and retail. There was another big mansion where the Kansas City Life Insurance Building is now. http://kchistory.org/content/site-kansas-city-life-insurance-building Looks like KC Life In...

I guess you really can put a price on proper interaction with a sidewalk.

Thanks for the info tskev.

Re: Uptown Shoppes

Would be interesting to know what the cost difference would be between this and doing it right.

I assume money/cheapness is at the heart of any decision with the city and Sells involved.

Re: Uptown Shoppes

What are they supposed to do if they insist on repurposing that garbage building and its 1960's suburban layout?

I think a knockdown and rebuild makes the most sense, but it's not my money. At least this is an improvement.

Re: Uptown Shoppes

The hotel will be right on the corner across from the Uptown, and be maybe 4 stories? I can't remember exactly. It would be nice if we could get a hotel like the Moonrise in St Louis for this location I've done a few Pageant Theater/Moonrise Hotel weekends. It would be great to have that experience...

But is there a section of BarK where you can enjoy the dogs without having to interact with dog owners?

Re: Dog friendly patios and places

I don't have a dog. I'll feel like an interloper.

Does Bird or Lyme plan to expand to dogs they place around town that I can grab for 2 hours?

That's all fair criticism. It's also not anywhere NEAR evidence of them being self-centered hypocrites.

Also, I don't care who you are. I can tell you have a very high opinion of yourself. Which is nice for you.

Re: New Downtown YMCA

I find it curious that Historic KC raises hell over the Westport bank building, yet no similar reaction over demolishing the majority of the Lyric building. I'm not. They're self-centered hypocrites. No they're not. I know plenty of people on the board and have worked with them in the past. They're...

Re: New Downtown YMCA

I have a hard time believing that UMKC wanted anything to do with restoring/maintaining an old downtown theater/auditorium. They want a new, state-of-the-art $100M facility to draw students. While we all know this is a cool space, I don't think students are really drawn to these older types of facil...

Re: Open Spaces - Kansas City Arts Experience

Location, location, location = fail. This city simply cannot get it right. They keep throwing events at Swope Park and nothing is successful. Example: The Ethnic Fest should have 10 times more visitors than it gets. But who wants to park in a field and walk a mile through tall, chigger-infested gra...

No. I haven't been to anything yet. Everytime I start to browse the website I get pissed off that it's not organized better.
