Re: Misc Crossroads News

I just realized I was wrong about something on Oak that's a key detail and it explains a lot. US 71 to downtown didn't exist in 1997, it wasn't finished as a road until 2001, so it wasn't that long ago that Oak would have been used for inbound traffic from the south. Get off 71 at US 56, turn north...

Great use of that space. If YJs is really moving to the old Sylvia's spot, that block could be getting a good boost.

Maybe time for someone to give the Coda/Pauly's/Jilly's spot another go.

Re: OFFICIAL - 21c Museum Hotel KC (former Savoy Hotel)

Are all the cocktails well drinks? It is weird how they list them. Some sound like they may be doing their own blends of Rye and Bourbon. They say "midwestern" gin - which I assume is something local. And American gin/vodka could be anything. Given their liquor list, I'm guessing "we...

Closing apparently. A bummer as they have been pretty solid for a long time. Always wished they had kept regular evening hours, but suppose that was a lifestyle choice for the owners. Whiskey and Donuts was a great event! I was at that Whiskey and Donut event - it was great! This seemed inevitable ...

Re: East Bottoms: Former Ramada Conference / Howard Johnsons / Park Place

I don't think MCC offers any residential housing, do they? It's kind of a big step and investment to get into that side of the business. It seems the handful of community colleges that do offer housing are in more rural locations. Not a commuter school system like MCC. And if they did offer housing,...

That's interesting - thanks for posting. I just watched most of Casino about a month ago. KC really plays a prominent role in that movie. Terrence O'Malley's "Blackhand Strawman" covered this particular part of KC crime history in some detail (the wiretaps were part of "Operation Stra...

That is a bold move - hopefully they can improve the space. The 2nd Cancun Fiesta Fresh didn't seem to do to well in that spot.

I'm embarassed to say i've never been to the Beignet place in the RM.

Re: 2019 Mayor/Council Elections

Jason Kander for Mayor? Nooooo! I mean, he'd be great and all but with such a high profile he should be running for something at the state or national level. He knows we have a weak mayor system, right? I'm sure he has his sights set on bigger things, but he's young (only 37) and relatively inexper...

Re: Would you like to see the Royals move to a downtown stadium?

if I keep saying that capital improvements to the existing stadiums plus a streetcar extension would be a better investment than a new stadium, will this make it happen? What about if it could be done before a hypothetical 2028 World Cup? (Fantastic renders though!) It will come down to what the te...

So 4 barcade type places in greater downtown area now with Rockafire recently opening too. Can all survive a few years? These are way higher maintenance than a typical bar with a few machines. Damn, I had all this typed just as brewcrew posted. Same point below... Could cupcake shops be our canary-...

Cat cafes are the new thing, if you haven't heard.

There's a Cat Cafe (Whisker's) opening a few doors North of Freshwater in the same strip mall.

I agree with that. If they win. Not Vegas-level the first year, but early and somewhat sustained.

Re: NHL OR NBA, let the message board decide!!

The Vegas thing does nothing to convince that the NHL is a quality product that I would pay top dollar to see. It just makes me think that a properly funded group of players that other teams didn't want can compete at any level.

I'm clearly not their target audience.
