Re: Politics

Pretty much. I believe we need to monitor it and perhaps limit it at some point. I believe it should be regulated to the extent we can keep out terrorists, weapons and narcotics. However, I have yet to see any evidence that we have reached some crisis stage of immigration. So, yeah - citizenship fo...

Re: Politics

How are we not, indeed. Good point. We should be. So, the path for anyone to get US citizenship is merely putting a foot in the soil? Pretty much. I believe we need to monitor it and perhaps limit it at some point. I believe it should be regulated to the extent we can keep out terrorists, weapons a...

Re: Politics

This is simply a humanitarian crisis being exploited by the right. But, aren’t they out of crisis once they leave Honduras? Wouldn’t Guatemala, El Salvador and Mexico be required to take them before the US? Sure, they would have more economic opportunity here, but wouldn’t that then be an economic ...

Re: Politics

Does anyone think this whole Caravan thing is kind of staged and find it fishy? I would find it very odd if the caravan arrives before the midterms. Is this story a way to benefit the Republicans? Bring fear that these people are coming at the border and it could help boost the republican numbers i...

Re: Sprint sale rumors again

The combined company would provide a cost-of-living adjustment to employees who move to Washington state from Kansas, T-Mobile President Mike Sievert said, but that would be an uncommon occurrence. An adjustment... down? For moving from KCMO metro to Seattle metro - I think that would be an adjustm...

Re: Wonderful Waldo

Tanner's Waldo closed for good this weekend. Well, we have some news: After 27 wonderful years serving the Waldo area, we have decided that this weekend will be our last. It has been our pleasure to have been here and we thank all of you that have made this possible for all of these years! Come hav...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Was this particular project ever supposed about providing a real long-term transit solution?

I was under the impression this was a development tool for the core of our city. Which seems to be working out pretty well.

Re: STL MLS proposal resurrection

It is ironic that those who campaigned against KC's Sprint Center want to build a stadium on the other side of the state with tax incentive financing. That does seem like a fair issue to explore. I had forgotten about Enterprises campaign against the SC. What kind of tax is this stadium going to be...

Re: Politics

^ Do you believe in restricting people from entering this country besides those who are terrorists or criminals? Yeah. I'm fine with some limitations. I prefer they not be race-based, but I'm open to ideas. I believe our legal immigration process needs fixing, but I do believe it's a necessary proc...

Re: Politics

We have never had open borders and never will. Border control was introduced around 1904. The agency was founded in 1924. So if there was no formal patrol, what kind of control was there at the borders? If you want to win an argument based on pedantry, have at it. I'm not interested. For the rest o...

Re: Misc Crossroads News

SHS had outgrown its own lot. So, I think it becomes an issue to manage with employees. Why do some get parking and others don't, blah, blah, blah.

It's a silly argument to make for a building that had a dedicated lot and resources (but apparently not desire) to accommodate all of their employees.

Nobody. Wants. Open. Borders. Many of my progressive friends do. They want America open to anyone willing to travel here for the ’American Dream’, they talk about how everyone came from immigrants and we used to let everyone in, ‘it will help our economy’, Irish potato famine, ICE is evil, sanctuar...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Agree - the design could have been better.

FWIW, the Element brand has a lower rack-card rate than Home2Suites. It's comparable, but it seemed lower when looking at Omaha/Des Moines.

You're not going to find a lot of luxury, high end extended stay hotels. Not in KC, anyway.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

That same brand with a somewhat similar design is fine at 20th/Main.

And it's one of the better extended stay brands. I agree that Element looks bad ass, but there's nothing wrong with Home2 for that category or that neighborhood.

By the time this thing gets built, we'll have Star Trek-like transporter technology. Won't even need it.

Re: How Kansas City got its' name

Maybe they thought being at the mouth of a river is more geographically identifying than just being along it.

Which is why I don't mind Kawsmouth. Kind of says exactly where it is. Besides, Missouri City was taken.

Re: STL MLS proposal resurrection

Any hope they could keep the Steamer's name? That would be awesome. Or any name, as opposed to what seems like the very lame trend for most new MLS teams to be "FC (city name)". I think I am one of the very few that is bothered by this. I like cheesy, fun american sports branding with diverse names...
