Re: Politics

I agree that it seems to soon for Beto. But I'm also tired of hearing the Warren/Biden/Sanders/HRC talk. I'm a lifelong Democrat and appreciate the years of time and effort those people have dedicated to public service, but I'm ready for some new voices. Maybe Harris - maybe someone people aren't ev...

Re: Misc Crossroads News

It does look like the name is stupid obvious and you know what you're getting when you go there. What does Affaire sell just based off the name? What does it matter what Affaire sells? I haven't seen anyone complain that the "Streetcar" name doesn't indicate what it is. It's just follows a pattern ...

Re: Misc Crossroads News

It looks like something called Streetcar Grille & Tavern is going into the retail space of the Helzberg garage at 1524 Main St: https://www.kansascity.com/news/business/biz-columns-blogs/cityscape/article220365170.html Why have such a stupid and lame name. It reminds of that one on 39th that was ca...

Can't we just do HyperLoop from River Market to Waldo? It would take like 7 seconds.

I'll take it if it means people stop thinking of Webster as an MBA mill with campuses nationwide at the nearest Class C office park.
Out of respect for your degree, I avoided ANY comment about them moving into the vacant space in Ward Pkwy Mall.

Re: Chess Hall of Fame (St Louis)

I wonder if he has anything to do with Webster University (my alma mater) starting up a chess team that now wins national tournaments. Apparently, St. Louis is the Chess capital of America. And Webster's recent success - and I assume this museum - are a result of that fact. https://www.economist.co...

Re: Jackson County Charter Changes

I agree campaign finance and incumbency are challenges to the system we have. But, as far as a solutions go, I don't see term limits as some panacea. I look at the Mayor's office here in KC or the Presidency and don't see how term limits there have really improved those that much.

Re: Jackson County Charter Changes

What's your logic for voting against term limits? 1. We have elections. 2. I don't think term limits are particularly effective at rooting out the evil they claim. 3. We risk the possibility of limiting extremely talented legislators from becoming even better. I don't think they're inherently evil ...

KC Star says Crazy Crab & Seafood will be going into Chub's.
That looks like the exact same koncept as Krab Kings akross the street (between Blarney Stone and Chez Charlie).

Guess that area is now the Crab District (the branding opportunities are endless...)

Re: Westport

Using this as the "close enough" thread, but for anyone who cares, Chubby's is closing Thursday morning . The article doesn't have any information on what (if anything) is going into that space, but the Pitch managed to work in a throwaway "gentrification" comment anyway. I noticed that as well. If...

Re: Jackson County Charter Changes

Having people vote on salaries for public officials seems like a bad idea. And, on principle, I'm likely to vote against any term limits.

Is this all Mike Sanders' fault that we have to deal with this now?

but why should we lock out people who are trying not to get killed? We absolutely should! Political dissidents who are being targeted by governments should be openly allowed into the country. Re: Politics

Pretty much. I believe we need to monitor it and perhaps limit it at some point. I believe it should be regulated to the extent we can keep out terrorists, weapons and narcotics. However, I have yet to see any evidence that we have reached some crisis stage of immigration. So, yeah - citizenship fo...

How are we not, indeed. Good point. We should be. So, the path for anyone to get US citizenship is merely putting a foot in the soil? Pretty much. This is simply a humanitarian crisis being exploited by the right. But, aren’t they out of crisis once they leave Honduras? Wouldn’t Guatemala, El Salvador and Mexico be required to take them before the US? Sure, they would have more economic opportunity here, but wouldn’t that then be an economic ...

Re: Politics

Does anyone think this whole Caravan thing is kind of staged and find it fishy? I would find it very odd if the caravan arrives before the midterms. Is this story a way to benefit the Republicans? Bring fear that these people are coming at the border and it could help boost the republican numbers i...
