Re: StL Blues break ground for new practice facility in StL Co

Cool concept for sure, but is it SOP for a pro team's practice facility to be 20+ miles from its home arena? I get it would be hard to put a practice facility close to downtown. Honestly, I know so little about hockey, I'm not even sure how much they get to really practice. It's an NBA-type season, ...

Re: Bird Scooters Have Landed

Jesus. You make one suggestion that a few blocks of Of one street might be too dangerous for them (the same few blocks that have signs cautioning cyclists, mind you), and suddenly you are some sort of murderous pro-car nut job. Frankly, I expected better based on your screen name. How do you even l...

Re: "Tower East"

Every time someone brings up Velvet Dog, it brings back good memories. "Martini Corner" branding surely came about do to the original Dog and the former Empire Room across the street, maybe also Cafe Trocadero, which was located where Tower Tavern is. In the early/mid 2000s those were pretty hip sp...

Re: "Tower East"

Was there another "Martini" bar in Tower's space - maybe before Dragon Fly? I can't remember. The moniker just seemed odd to me as there was only one martini bar and it grew to be more than one corner. Not a big deal and it's certainly better than nothing. The early days of Velvet Dog and Liquid Lou...

Re: "Tower East"

sorry for the vague original post, i assumed i was late to the game on this. my impression is that people (developers?) are trying to "brand" the 31st/Gillham area as Tower East. clearly there is a bit of momentum going on over there with some new businesses and renovation of buildings. i was just ...

Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.

I don't mind the new bike lanes, but it is difficult to see traffic if you're trying to turn onto Armour from a side street.

It has actually made me use Linwood much more than I used to - which I hope was part of the plan.

What about the original screenland space on Washington?
They turned the theater space into office space - leveled the floor and divided. It's only a former theater in name now. I'd imagine it would be easier and cheaper to convert an empty warehouse into a theater at this point.

Hadn't heard about this,

Outpost Social Club, 1000 W. 25th St. By October

Looks to be same address as La Esquina?
I don't know La Esquina, but I was thinking this is the old Speak Deli space in that weird spot up on 25th.

Re: Bird Scooters Have Landed

Yes let's risk rank pedestrian dangers and start enforcing highest risk ones.... Scooter enforcement should come around 2023. I hear ya, but if there's zero enforcement for riding on sidewalks there WILL be backlash when these operators expand. It's happened everywhere else. I don't understand why ...

Re: Porchfest

The PorchFest organizer is not going to put the event on this year. Doesn't want to put in the labor of love required to do it. Seems unlikely anyone will have the time to pick up the ball since it is this late in the year. That's too bad, but I get it. Seems like a lot of work goes into that one. ...

I'm sure they tried to get open asap but man talk about missing an opportunity Maybe they want to ease in a bit instead of going for three straight months of summer with no idea if they can meet demand, etc. for that long. Could actually a decent plan to start up the operation while mitigating the ...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

^Taubman mentions transitioning retail spaces to more restaurants but that's about it. They need to target much broader than that such as nightlife/cultural venues that target perhaps 40+. Like Highwoods, no mention of a neighborhood surrounding it, which Nichols always acknowledged and partly cate...

Kind of an interesting KC-related tidbit from Wikipedia about the sitcom "Cheers" "Early discussions about the location of the show centered on Barstow, California, then Kansas City, Missouri. They eventually turned to the East Coast and finally Boston." That would have been interesting - tourists ...

Re: Google Maps renames neighborhoods, residents fume

The "Midtown Westport" neighborhood in the Roanoke/Volker area seems a bit off.

There is no Midtown designation anywhere. It looks like the area from Main to Gillham and 31st to Armour is lacking a name. That is an area I refer to as Midtown.

Re: Politics

Any thoughts about Tuesday's election? Right to Work/Prop A seems to be the biggest issue on the KCMO ballot. Also a Question regarding rental property inspections as well.

Obviously a ton of primaries as well.

Don't forget to vote Tuesday!

the main issue for me would be them propping open the doors that lead to the residential areas. Not cool. And the garbage/rat issue. I've had that in my neighborhood when a food business moved into a place that hadn't had food before. To their credit, the city did help managing it and the problem w...
