Re: KC Bike share
Hey folks, here are some updates and answers to questions.... Pricing strategy - this is bike sharing , not bike rental, thus the pricing structure is intended to encourage multiple short trips and keep bikes in the system available when you walk up to a station. However, if you choose to use it as ...

Re: Bike Lanes
Google Maps uses dark green for trails, bright green for bike lanes, and dotted green for designated routes without special facilities. Southwest Boulevard is emblematic of two big problems for bike lanes. 1. Doing bike lanes instead of sharrows east of Summit would have required removing curb-side ...

Re: Drivers pay for only 1/3 of state/local road spending
Federal gas tax goes almost exclusively to state-owned highways like Interstates. Very little federal gas tax goes to city and county-owned roads. Local city streets are paid for by local funds - sales, property, and earnings taxes. So users of I-70 pay for most of its upkeep, we all pay for paving ...

Re: KC Bike share
dangerboy, has there been any effort to get businesses/schools to sponsor their own stations? UMKC should sponsor their own. Plaza/Highwoods should sponsor their own stations as well. I know they are expensive but for those two it should be worth it. Yes, if you can think of a business or instituti...

Re: KC Bike share
I can answer a few of these questions... We are actively fundraising to add stations Downtown and expand to KCK, Midtown, Plaza, and UMKC areas. As a non-profit we rely on donations, grants, and corporate sponsorships to make this happen. So far we have received no public funding. The $500,000 CMAQ ...

Re: High Dive on 39th
I like the name and good to see something replacing the worst of the Minsky's locations - that one was particularly bad. It was a franchise with a different owner and different menu than the rest of the chain. At the end it lost the franchise and operated as 39th Street Pizza, then the oven broke d...

High Dive on 39th
The old Minsky's on 39th is being remodeled right now. The neighborhood Facebook group mentioned "High Dive Bar & Grill" - anyone know more?

Re: KC Bike share
Hey guys here are some updates/explanations... 1. Pricing - It's two-tiered. First you buy an access pass, and then you pay usage charges based on the amount of time the bike is checked out. The first 30 minutes of each checkout is free. The pricing structure is designed to encourage short point-to-...

Re: We need a new airport!!!
I don't see any reason we couldn't DFW-ify KCI, but I don't care that much either way. Like Grid said, the DFW rings are much wider, and they are close enough together to be physically connected. It also sounds like the innards of KCI's terminals weren't really built to last, like most things built...

Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.
I wish that damn Plasma center would go away and is really holding all of midtown back. It's a haven for drug dealing. People get cash from plasma, then walk towards 37th or 38th and Central/Baltimore and complete their transaction for crack The bigger problem is lack of a CID on Broadway to provid...

The Midtown Marketplace and Mill Street Station (Sunfresh) projects had a component where part of the TIF revenue went into fund for small grants to renovate homes in Midtown.chaglang wrote: he talked about how the city used "leftover" money (I have no idea what this means)

Re: KC Bike share
We won't have exact station locations for another couple of months. The City has been asked to begin developing a Downtown bike lane network to support the bike share system, but has not yet made any firm commitments on specific streets. The idea is that instead of putting public money into bike sha...

I'm involved in this project, so I can answer some questions... Helmet usage is not required by city or state law, but it will be strongly encoura...

Re: Kansas, Missouri battle over companies
Isn't the problem incentives on both sides that favor "new jobs" vs "retention of jobs"? Both ks and mo have much better incentives for new jobs. Just that kcmo has more jobs to poach. Yes, incentives skewed towards new vs retention is a big problem. But even the "new job...
