Re: OFFICIAL - 21c Museum Hotel KC (former Savoy Hotel)

I was able to tour get a tour of the hotel last week from the project Mgr at McCownGordon, including the restaurant. Not to worry, the booths are staying including the HST booth. They are bringing in a professional to restore the murals and are keeping and restoring the original bar and floor. The p...

Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District

Whoever ends up going in there I hope would be in by early-to-mid February so they can workout all the kinks in time for the Big 12 Tournament.  If not it would be a shame to have that spot sit empty during that week.

Re: Zaina

Stopped in with the wife yesterday for to grab some dinner to go.  Joe, the owner, took our order.  The guy couldn't have been any nicer.  While we waited he gave us two soft drinks on the house and then proceeded to give me an inch-thick stack of buy one breakfast or dinner, get one free cards to u...

Re: New convenience store/deli on 3rd street - Market3

Was able to peek inside on Monday.  Definite progress being made but I'd say Sept 10 may be a little aggressive.

Re: Whats the missing piece to the P&L puzzle?

Crate and Barrel outlet.  People go ape sh*t for C&B.  It would draw a hoard of people downtown and would be the major retail anchor.  Also like the Barnes&Noble/Borders angle.

Re: 50s/Main development

Officially checked out Jack Gage's last night and was very impressed.  Owner told me the actual bar used to be in the House of Blues in Atlanta (and danced on by Goodman and Ackroyd during '96 Olympics).  Second floor is for private parties and functions, with large windows looking onto Main St. and...

Re: 50s/Main development

Jack Gage's is scheduled to open for business on December 1st.  I know one of the owners as well as the chef.  Very excited for this establishment as it will be a unique concept to the area and the city in general.  The menu looks awesome with a mix of serveral types of cuisines from all over the wo...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

I've lived at 2nd and Main for over three years now.  I would kill for a Quikie Mart or Convenient Store of some sort on 2nd St. (Garrett's spot in particular).  That has been my one real beef with the area.  With all of the loft dwellers down here and with the Market Station apartments coming along...

Re: Stories of people coming downtown for the first time in years, possibly ever???

My girlfriend works at Raglan Road and has a bunch of these stories every month of people coming downtown for the first time.  Last week a lady at one her table asked, "Are all of these places new?  When did all of this get built?"  She's also had to explain to numerous JOCO's what it mean...

Re: Downtown Mexican

ingatius, Teocali is known for their enchiladas.  Three different specific kinds, all are fabulous.  Also have great fish tacos if you are into that.  I honestly have not had even an average dish there.  Always fantastic.

For my money the best mexican food in KC is Teocali.  25th and Holmes.  A hidden little gem.

Re: OFFICIAL - Performing Arts Center construction

Yes.  The height of the final structure is going to be the same height as the four pillars of Bartle Hall, if they were on the same level ground.  In other words, it is going to be huge.  It will make quite an impression on the skyline to say the least.  Then once it is done, maybe all of the local ...

Re: OFFICIAL: Redevelopment of Second Street

My loft is right on the SW corner of second and main.  So I've had the pleasure of waking up to it every morning for the past couple of months.  It is looking awesome!  Will be the nicest street in the RM by far.  Now if we can only get a convenience store to go into the old Garrett's.......
