Are you saying TWA had a commercial terminal there from 57 to 72?
Yes, the overhaul base. I got those dates from the 1995 master plan

Re: Next Mayor 2019

Jolie has really been making a strong pro-transit position this week. Tonight she said every Kansas Cityian should be able to live car free. This is why her candidacy remains a joke. ....is it though? The entire east side is likely happy with that stance. And if you look at past elections, the east...

Re: Atlanta 2019

You do realize Hartsfield is the busiest airport in the world , right? 17x the passenger count but it was just a dramatically better airport even adjusting for size. There wasn't 17x the number of people at the Atlanta Southewest gates, there was more like 40x and it operated better. The dropoff/pi...

Atlanta 2019

I was just in Atlanta for a work trip. The airport is insane. One my way back their terminals were buzzing with activity and got back to KCI and it was basically dead. The food courts inside the airport were packed. The between terminal train was super useful. Their metro line gets insanely heavy ai...

Capitalism says that as long as owner of the strip of shops stops is making money off it greater than the return on selling it then it should stick around. Maybe land/property ownership laws subterfuge market pressures or we don't really live in a "free-market" economy? It's way more complex than t...

Re: OFFICIAL - City Bank Building (Church of Scientology)

Following up here, I wish we knew why they covered up all of the signage and symbols - permitting issues? I think these guys did a bang up job on the building reno and I love both the rooftop sign and the weird lit symbols at street level. A strangely solid addition to downtown, aesthetically. This...

That raggedy strip of shops and 'spa' needs to go.
Does it?

Eh, I'm just happy this will shift some additional activity into the downtown core.
Versus where it was in the downtown core?

While true rapid rail (metro) isn’t possible Sure it is. But you have to think about not necessarily being seamless with downtown. Using places like the Riverfront for a transfer point. I don’t think we will ever be able to afford a metro aka subway. Maybe there is some confusion due to my using th...

High Schools sometimes have a Jazz Band even today so there's lots of people aware of the genre. For certain people it can be good for a date of a professional meeting where you want live music but don't want to worry about the type of music your date likes. A Jazz club these days is likely to be so...

Its been years, so correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this project originally sold as a mixed-use transportation hub? To me, it looks like it has morphed into solely a suburban office building project.
The transit aspect is supposed to be on the NW corner and north side.

Re: Misc Crossroads News

The Cityscene article on the Hampton Inn mentions that a long-term deal was secured to provide parking in the lot to the south of the hotel between 16th and Nara. Does that realistically take that lot out of consideration for near-term development? It depends. It's entirely possible to write a cont...

I would have put him into the white American facist grouping but he really doesn't fit well there. It just goes to show you can find any combination of beliefs. It's in the style of a sovereign c...

I would like to see the council largely out of the project approval game except for publicly funded ones. Take the politics out of projects. The council should be defining standards for projects. All project the professional city staff reviews the project like today. If a project meets the standards...
