Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

The cladding looks somewhat beige, I thought the renderings looked more grey. Is this a pre-cast stone like the KCPA or metal panels like the Barnes ballroom? https://www.coopercarry.com/projects/kansas-city-loews-hotel/ Depends on the lighting. Beige can look a little more blue with a daytime colo...

Re: "Flashcube" Building - 720 Main

The blocks in the north loop are tiny. That area can be built out quickly (by real estate standards) once the land actually gets into the hands of developers. A lot of projects getting built downtown have footprints that are anywhere from 2 to 5 times the size of a typical north loop block. There h...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

To take your example, would we be happy with this roof? https://www.wfyi.org/files/wfyi/articles/current/5_4_3_2_1_indy-airport-plaza.jpg How is that roof bad? Do people go to the airport to look up inside? If anything a roof that lets me watch planes take off and land no matter the shape would be ...

Re: "Flashcube" Building - 720 Main

That area should never have a ballpark. A more beneficial fantasy would be returning the grid to how it was before urban renewal, complete with the junction The space is so big it would take 1000 years to develop it all. I think a ballpark would take a good part of the space and greatly accelerate ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

However, with renderings we're supposed to get a better impression of design and it is obvious that some of the initial design elements meant to inspire us a bit were just misleading Price going up is a theme of just about every big project. Promise everything, scale back as the budget gets defined...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

What’s wrong with an airport with a flat roof and no fountain? Does the shape of the roof have anything to do with how well it moves people around? Do you think most people are upset that costs are being kept under control by taking out a feature that is nice but provides no utility in exchange for ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

They're supposed to show the shape of the building, the size of the rooms. The chairs are bad because they picked something from their stock image library and stuck them in to show how many will fit in the space and that's all you're supposed to get from it. Except why release them if you don't want...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Any ground-up new terminal will be an upgrade, but at this point I am really frustrated that the signature design elements from the earlier "winning" proposal are ALL gone. Cost and function is the number on concern for 90% of people. They don’t care if fancy linestone is replaced with tile as long...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

also, wtf is everything paneled in wood? These honestly look terrible. You will not get a good idea on how it will the walls or floors or counters will look based on a rendering. Rendering are meant to show off the layout and what type of materials will be used in abstract. The computer can’t know ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

I’ve always been more concerned with the concourse depth than I was about the number of gates. If you’re going to expand amenities in the future and if the passenger numbers grow, you need that space to build out. You would think this would have been learned after our current airport is such a prim...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

My guess is people will not like the new pick-up and drop-off situation since it will be more difficult to circle around and around. I feel like cell phones and designated "waiting areas" for cars picking people up have solved this particular issue enough - at least to the point I won't pay too muc...

Re: Bird Scooters Have Landed

I didn't have any real beef with the scooter riders until today when I was driving back to work from getting my hair cut. I really think they need to be banned on Main from 12th to 20th. The traffic lanes are just too narrow to be able to get around them safely and the streetcar tracks are a scoote...

Segway tours seem to not illicit such anger.... Guess it's just the sheer number of scooters (and we haven't got started yet)
12.5 mph max. probably because they're so rare and rarely seen

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

So there is an article in the KC BJ about purchasing 9 more streetcars for the extensions. Actually 11 I guess when you include the two on order for the current line. I'm just wondering if they plan to build a major expansion of the maintenance facility or will they build another facility in a diff...

Re: Bird Scooters Have Landed

Yes let's risk rank pedestrian dangers and start enforcing highest risk ones.... Scooter enforcement should come around 2023. I hear ya, but if there's zero enforcement for riding on sidewalks there WILL be backlash when these operators expand. It's happened everywhere else. I don't understand why ...
