Re: Urbanism and Pros and Cons of Gentrification

Most post WWII lots are way too huge. But how can areas developed like that be infilled? I know of a really good example. Works great for a row of lower value homes, like they weren't built with good quality materials or have repair costs way more than the home is worth. Plenty of homes have termit...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion

Interesting design. Problem is that ROW looks to be about 60 feet wider than N. Oak is at I-29. I would actually do something different. Don't widen underneath I-29 and put a roundabout in place of the Vivion/N Oak intersection. Realign the off ramp to directly connect as an entrance into it instead...

Re: Electric Park Neighborhood (East Bottoms)

I don't see this working out too good. Who in the world would want to live down there? There could be floods, I heard there were many floods down there and really the area looks like there isn't too much going on with all the vacant places. People live down there today and have for over 100 years. ...

Re: Homogenization of KC

One has to remember the trails were originally started in Independence. And even before that close to Franklin MO. And before that, St. Louis. Trailheads moved west every few decades. Like the cattle drives moved out to central Kansas with the railroads crossing the plains The Pony Express started ...

Many counties do need to merge in both Kansas and Missouri. The county I grew up in has seen its' population drop to around 4,400 people. The population in 1900 was 17,083. There are schools that are merging with other districts located across the county line, or sharing sports programs with them b...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion

I went to the northrail meetings, there's notes way back in that thread, but the idea was HOA = cheaper new bridge = way more expensive but gives the option of a much better ped crossing into NKC starting at the park. a new bridge also could better align with columbus park and I could see it being u...

Re: Urbanism and Pros and Cons of Gentrification

Hey! Not sure if this is the right place to post but I'm putting together a presentation about how KC has overbuilt low-density areas leading to massive detrimental long-term effects. I am currently struggling to find examples and data about the differences between dense and low density neighborhoo...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion

The I-29 bridge on N. Oak isn't high enough. Need 16 feet clearance and it's not. Getting the train past Vivion Rd will be the first barrier going north let alone traveling all the way to the airport Given NKC passed a TDD in 2008 and is moving forward with Burlington corridor biking improvements wi...

Re: KC area Transit master plan LIGHT RAIL OR BUST!

I heard today that the Chamber of Commerce is looking at an "AI Superhighway" as part of their transit initiative. Anyone else here something about this? It sounds awesome but I don't know what it means. If you blockchain the data lakes and cryptomine the ELK stacks, you can use the cloud...

Re: Glenwood Plaza becoming The Union of Metcalf by Legecy Development

JoCo in general is about 30-40 years away from a tax/fee problem, as in they need to build denser to not need to massively raise them in the future. It's not the roads that will cause this, it's the water and sewer system. What's happening in KC where just about everything needs replacing will come ...

Re: Shoal Creek Valley Neighborhood Plan

You put that many houses there and there better be a plan to help with traffic on 152, it's already a mess now IMO. There's no fix, this will be the third major round of road widening and reconfiguration over I-35. I lived in Liberty during the first one and remember when walmart moved into Kansas ...

$100 million per mile is probably low. Should count on double that by the time funding is found. In the United States, most recent and in-progress light-rail lines cost more than $100 million per mile. Two light-rail extensions in Minneapolis, the Blue Line Extension and the Southwest LRT, cost $120...

One problem I I fell into is thinking too much in 2D. How do the stop placements work in terms shapes centered on top of them? (I used diamonds for comparison simplicity, easy to show E-W the same as N-S) Small diamonds https://drive.google.com/open?id=1I9I5LKj9zPl5LgMVz-L0qhaUvdUOWYN7&usp=shari...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion

I'd only support that if 71 was getting downgraded. I'd rather pay more to have it be somewhere else and have the possibility for good TOD and high ridership. need to be careful here, last thing wanted is to take everyone taking 71 into downtown and move them to 435 into JoCo and a lot of people wo...
