Re: Three Light

The original design even has less floors than the final product. That alone tells us that the design changed from start to finish.

Re: Three Light

I think in summary of everyone, there's nothing wrong with pushing for a review of the design so it's not cookie cutter, but it's not a design that would be a huge disaster if it's not changed. At the very least being able to say that Three Light has some unique feature would be a good thing. "...

Re: 14 Story apartment tower - Westport

Opus is too dense, this one isn't.

Really makes you think that it's not about density, that someone has a financial reason to be against one project and not another.

Good point and good picture! Although I don't think any of the new towers will be visable from that union station angle. However, point taken. I'm sorry, what?!? The construction of Two Light has been visible from Union Station for months now and isn't even topped out. I'd encourage you, and any ne...

Re: Bannister Mall/Cerner

Here's a piece from a couple years ago. Near neighborhoods and near suburbs seem to be the big winner at 3x downtown nationwide. So there appears to be a trend against the far suburbs so Prairie Village over Olathe is the most logical. https://gizmodo.com/millennials-will-live-in-cities-unlike-anyth...

Re: Three Light

Tastes change. There will be a point that *two* glass curtain buildings next to each other will be seen as the best thing ever for that part of town. They'll be retro chic. Besides, they won't look exactly the same. Each building will reflect different buildings in the day and different lights at ni...

Re: Three Light

To be fair, "popular on a development forum frequented mostly by urban planning and development nerds" and "popular amongst the general public" aren't really the same thing. If you just polled opinions on this forum, you'd expect KC would have a comprehensive transit network, bi...

Re: Bannister Mall/Cerner

KC won't get what it lost and we wouldn't want to. KC was a manufacturing center. Remember that the crossroads was mostly industrial. In 1960 the city was a fraction the size. We can't build for the farthest people working downtown being at 95th and Metcalf, imagine Barry Road will be lined with far...

99.999% of restaurants are in no way unique. They're all rehashes of something else. Worry more about if they cook food to a consistent quality level, keeping their recipes fresh, and less on the name, concept, chain vs not, etc. if someone is bored it means they're either not challenged or easily d...

And the same can be said for rows of nearly identical suburban ticky tacky McMansions. It's practical for developers afterall so is awesome. If that's what you like, that's what we'll get. And a wall of this in front of the skyline from S view. I like how apparently multiple skyscrapers are compare...

Re: Bannister Mall/Cerner

We did a Sunday afternoon drive yesterday and somehow ended up out there. It's atrocious. I was somewhat willing to understand their position at first but sigh, after seeing it, don't know what Cerner is thinking. They could have built two or three 50 story buildings downtown and more easily attrac...

Not different materials, different finishes, change the glass color slightly, different details. They don't need to be crazy different to be different enough. There's now five buildings with blue-green, blue or green glass downtown in a small area (One Light, 1200 Walnut, One KC Place, Town Pavillio...

Question 1 seams like it wouldn't hold up against the TDD. Not sure what they are trying to accomplish. It will be thrown out in a second because of a critical error. read this post. Why would you get to the stadiums at grade, crossing a freight line? Keep on 31st and connect direct to the Rock Island rail corridor, with a new bridge over the Blue River. Cutting down to Meyer from 63rd isn't bad, can see value there but would take it to a stop between starlight and the zoo. Not ...

She lives in Valentine about 7 blocks NE. You can thank her for putting her name on the property, made it really easy to find. Really amazing, her mortgage is with another KC name, James B Nutter, who's chairman contributed to SmartKC in 2014, the anti streetcar group. Their mortgage servicing cente...
