Re: Interstate 70 KC to St Louis

I don't think it would matter, the shorter/faster/easier way to get from KC to Chicago is taking 35 to 80 then 88 or 80 in Illinois, If you took 70 from here to Chicago you would actually be going a little out of the way since St Louis/70 goes southward a little I'll grant you easier - maybe faster...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

The lobby height is HUGE. You're right, the floor to ceiling view out those windows will be stunning. I looked at the plans. Baltimore is where floors are counted from. There's going to be a two-story restaurant on 1 and 2 with direct Baltimore access as well as hotel access. So this will let peopl...

Re: Interstate 70 KC to St Louis

The only thing three lanes would do is let the big trucks drive 60 in the middle lane too.

The state widened US 36 to keep traffic off of I-70 coming from Chicago. It's why it's called the Chicago to Kansas City expressway.

This must be an old diagram because I see at least six announced, or finished, projects not shown.

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

I wonder where they plan to move the two KCPL transmission yards? I see several parcels they don't have indicated. I would think that west parking lot at the Cold Storage Lofts would be a likely development site. There are also surface lots south of 3rd Street between Oak and Locust. Be aware this ...

This map is from March so don't assume everything is accurate with it today. Things have changed already, like #15 was completed months back.

A fire at a different historic Westport strip mall.

They didn’t have working sprinklers. It must be hard to keep these old buildings up to modern code.

Re: Kansas, Missouri battle over companies

RMA and FSA have their office at 63rd and 435 near Swope Park.

There’s TONS of empty land in that development to put a second building up and it has the benefit for them that they could use the same security team for both sites.

Re: "Flashcube" Building - 720 Main

There’s five owners now for all that land so it’s definently not something Commerce could pull off alone. It used to be four.

Also notice it requires moving the bridge the streetcar is on.

Re: "Flashcube" Building - 720 Main

All the more reason to tear down Flashcube. It’s got no historic context and obviously isn’t viable without big subsidies due to condition. It also might be nice to include the lots all the way to Central in a ballpark development. Would need to find a way to include the older building in the far n...

There's 7 open houses in September. Sounds like a good place to give constructive feedback.

Re: "Flashcube" Building - 720 Main

If you think Tower Properties is trying to market those North Loop parking lots for individual redevelopment (or develop them individually on their own), you are delusional. They are banking them (LOL) for something, and it's very likely downtown baseball. The last serious drawing of a stadium on t...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

The cladding looks somewhat beige, I thought the renderings looked more grey. Is this a pre-cast stone like the KCPA or metal panels like the Barnes ballroom? https://www.coopercarry.com/projects/kansas-city-loews-hotel/ Depends on the lighting. Beige can look a little more blue with a daytime colo...

Re: "Flashcube" Building - 720 Main

The blocks in the north loop are tiny. That area can be built out quickly (by real estate standards) once the land actually gets into the hands of developers. A lot of projects getting built downtown have footprints that are anywhere from 2 to 5 times the size of a typical north loop block. There h...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

To take your example, would we be happy with this roof? https://www.wfyi.org/files/wfyi/articles/current/5_4_3_2_1_indy-airport-plaza.jpg How is that roof bad? Do people go to the airport to look up inside? If anything a roof that lets me watch planes take off and land no matter the shape would be ...

Re: "Flashcube" Building - 720 Main

That area should never have a ballpark. A more beneficial fantasy would be returning the grid to how it was before urban renewal, complete with the junction The space is so big it would take 1000 years to develop it all. I think a ballpark would take a good part of the space and greatly accelerate ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

However, with renderings we're supposed to get a better impression of design and it is obvious that some of the initial design elements meant to inspire us a bit were just misleading Price going up is a theme of just about every big project. Promise everything, scale back as the budget gets defined...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

What’s wrong with an airport with a flat roof and no fountain? Does the shape of the roof have anything to do with how well it moves people around? Do you think most people are upset that costs are being kept under control by taking out a feature that is nice but provides no utility in exchange for ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

They're supposed to show the shape of the building, the size of the rooms. The chairs are bad because they picked something from their stock image library and stuck them in to show how many will fit in the space and that's all you're supposed to get from it. Except why release them if you don't want...
