Re: Northeast Industrial District Housing

Interesting article. Possible that the original houses were brewery worker quarters.

Can’t tell but the header may show electric park

Re: Northeast Industrial District Housing

The amusement park was called Electric Park. The first version was there in the East Bottoms, but it got moved way down south at some point. I believe that version is the more famous one. There’s a park along Chestnut Tfwy in the bottoms . It was there and the other side. Looks like they ran a road...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Every time I come back to KC, I am shocked (although I should not be) by the way drivers absolutely ignore crosswalks, even in areas with heavy pedestrian traffic. In the interior roads of the plaza, drivers will sometimes be oblivious to pedestrians in crosswalks, on 47th, pedestrians are routinel...

Re: OFFICIAL: Zona Rosa (tenants & phase II)

Agreed. And I think we’re seeing it. There’s some signs that multi family has picked up on the northland. The ones at Burlington Creek, 435 and 152 and in Shoal Creek are at a scale the northland hasn’t really seen before. The other tiny change would be maximum setbacks. A required side setback of 1...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

It all depends on if center running can be dedicated and ban left turns across Main. Because getting it so the train has zero cars in front of it would make a difference. Imagine it going without stopping between ~27th and 31st and how quickly it could move. Adding 15 seconds for an extra stop and m...

The public being property owners along the line. Maintaining on street parking for them determined a lot.

geography another. Original plan didn’t go down Delaware for example, something about grade + turn radius as an issue led to the loop

Re: Fixing p&l traffic backups

Grand has the no turn dynamic signs around train movement. Doing this more places so at certain intersections all turns get blocked onto Main during event traffic could help. Add the digital signs, turn them on for an event, station traffic enforcement at one corner like a DUI spot and have some par...

Re: OFFICIAL: Zona Rosa (tenants & phase II)

It's been said before but there needs to be 3x the residential density onsite to really keep this thing working. They clearly wanted a plaza-esque space, so they took the shopping center and didn't bring the bowl that surrounds it. I don't think it's that. It's that retail was developed too ...

There's what looks like a survey stake visible even from this far away, so it's probably been surveyed and this is prep for foundation work, like where the main support columns will go.

I bet you would find a strong computer science program at the majority of the schools in the towns picked.

Re: Dismantling of Great Mall (ongoing)

I see some things never change about Kansas. They are going after STAR bonds to build this redevelopment making sure it will be a "tourist destination". FYI, The Great Mall was highly subsidized and was supposed bring in people from all over the midwest by the bus load too. Now it's a fie...

It's over built, especially with the amount of retail in the area. Made more sense before the latest shopping center popped up in the area.

^ I was actually going to suggest a Magnolia Market store for DT. They’ve expressed a love for KC and said they would live here if they ever left Texas. I’m sure Target lawyers have them wrapped up tight though. There already is/was one. It's a mini store in one of the bottoms markets. Saw it this ...

Re: Hospital Hill activity

3 shifts? 7 days a week? I could see even a couple shifts working for this. two shifts and 235000 sq feet gives 160 sq feet per person across the whole space. Three shifts, 320. 320 sq feet is approx 18x18. That's a lot of space on average. Seems reasonable the space is big enough for 3000 workers.

Man that is one goofy post. Read the post before mine. To be ok with Three Light because it's not in the crossroads to keep chains out of the crossroads. That's the same protectionist ideas for business that have come up time and time again and never work. As if somehow those businesses will be pro...

Re: Capping the Loop

Vacating main is a great idea I would think need to be much bigger than one block. The problem is there's so many destinations still. You're not going to be able to detour someone heading to a parking lot at 18th from taking Main. They'll go around and cut over at 14th and back over at 16th. The cr...
