Re: We need a new airport!!!

I don’t see the numbers ever working to support rail to KCI. The density along that 15-20 miles between KCI and downtown is just not there and probably never will be there Never say never. There's a 75,000+ person worth of development coming north of Barry Road. It doesn't need to be cost effective...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

They numbered to be able to have 1-30 in A, 31-60 in B, 61-90 in C. If it ever had that many is a different point, but it's clear how that idea became a thing.

There's flights in gates 81 to 83, for example.

Re: Vote Yes or No? A Discussion on the Pros and Cons of Chastain's Plan

I think the results from it passing are better than not. The city has been weak in this area in recent years. If it will pass, I won't try to make a guess. It's possible the majority of consistent voters that had not rode the streetcar last November have by this August. If a good experience translat...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Do you think they will be the same color scheme, or do you think there will ever be another color scheme incorporated? Personally, I don't see value in a bunch of colors. Doing different color by line means it's hard to share trains. It also has a branding and visibility aspect of all trains being ...

Re: Two Light - 14th & Grand

Sprint Center was busier than 95% of NBA, NHL arenas at one point. We had usage nearly on par with arenas in LA and NYC. I doubt it's only justification after the fact. It's more a pure numbers situation where people moving into the area become customers and more customers means rent can be higher, ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Move Southwest to A, use half of the gates in each holding pen. Now you have twice as much room per flight: magic! What aspect of my vast ignorance of airline operations accounts for my failure to understand why this is impossible? Remember, the goal is to keep or improve convenience, not make it w...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Now it's about 50. It's 38 when you count metro areas and not airports. You can get to Houston via two airports from KC, for example. The count last year was over 11 million and the year-to-date numbers through May of this year put 2017 on pace for the record. flyingember's implied point, that Term...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

I could see including a riverfront line order option and that's about it. It's short enough you're talking maybe one more train. Option cost likely relative to total order size and moving from 2 to 3 trains would provide a similar profit and cost to CAF. There's no way the authority could include op...

Re: Sears closing

Not exactly, this is a well known situation across the company, even has it's own company scandal included. The Sears RE trust isn't owned by Sears. It's a separate company that is completely independent in all ways. The store likely leased the land and store from the trust Many stores officially we...

I don't think the mall will go away, they will probably just try to restructure the loan or something. It kills me though, Herbert Simon, net worth 2.7 billion USD why can't he just pay it with his own cash? net worth <> cash on hand. A large portion of his value is probably tied up in the equity v...

Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown

I think it means they want to use their political capital on something else, not fighting to get a building and what it takes so get there. There's university budget cuts coming for certain in future budgets. The lack of public details also tells us the current governor is fostering a system of back...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

I'm a bit bewildered by the rhetorical Rube Goldberg machines several of you are trotting out to deny and excuse what is obvious: closing Terminal A vastly worstened the experience of flying out of KCI, period. No, it didn't. The airport basically lost every customer in A over the course of a few y...

JBmidtown wrote:What about all the wooded area along the north bank of the Missouri River near Harlem? Why has that never been developed? That land can't be that expensive.

Buying land from the federal government that's purposefully designated as floodable space likely has more red tape than can be imagined.

As best I can tell most of the bills from the regular session that passed the legislature in the last regular session have yet to be signed.

Hard to tell, the legislature doesn't have a very good website for searching past sessions

Re: We need a new airport!!!

The point on the separated people movement and tiered parking means you pay for convenience and speed makes sense. And that connects to another holy grail of our airport. Rail and how to pay for it. One thing pointed out is space for a train will be built into the plan (could make great to downtown ...

Here's another thing to account for. The airport didn't have those garages originally, something I'm sure is often forgotten
