Re: Bike Lanes

what the hell is going on at the boley building? they've been hacking away at it for what seems like 18 months I would bet it's a combination that slower costs less, a crazy complex amount of work and a need to not interrupt daytime users Slower costs less? In most any circumstance, the exact oppos...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

I agree that this design looks boring without the cornice, but that doesn't mean they didn't have other options. A rooftop area with an arbor, for example. A smaller cornice is also fine, but this one is so big that it looks a little fake. This project is still great, I'm glad it is going forward, ...

Re: The KC City Flag

The hearts aren't *bad* but that wouldn't show up well at a distance. It really kind of depends on what we're trying to sell and is it clearly selling that. A heart flag isn't a wrong approach but it's too easily confused with other symbolism. The heart fountain was good at selling the city of fount...

Re: KU-MU rivalry reborn?

As a charity event it would make sense to have it be private televised and any place that does donates a cover charge or percent of takings to it.

Spread it far and wide with the goal of increasing takings

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

Cornices are like everything, they only work if they work with the whole design. Put your hand over the image and they needed something to break up the flat red brick up to that point. No cornice and it's kind of boring. Some tall towers are all about cool external detail that goes endlessly to the ...

I hope it's well executed. I've yet to see anything substantial that they've failed to execute on, s...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

I'm not a huge fan of the faux historical roofline, but whatever. Give it 20 years, and people will think it's actually historical, like the BOA building in Westport. As I don't know much about the topic- what makes this a faux historical roof line? What is an example of a true historical roof line...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

It doesn't really look faux historical to me. It just looks like a modern building trying to blend in with its surroundings To me it's in then "could be better" category but not so much it couldn't be built like this and look good. And the building there is nothing special so the tear dow...

Re: West 39th Street Apartments

It's hard to imagine a neighborhood sitting down with a developer to discuss unit pricing. I can imagine it. There was a recent star piece about one neighborhood near downtown not wanting to price out existing residents when new homes were coming in. People were worried they were going to lose mult...

Grand was functionally truncated in 1857 when Union Cemetary was founded.

The city didn't go south of 9th St until two years after the cemetery was founded. Keep in mind that until 1910, the Cemetery went all the way to Main.

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

It's hard, there's no doubt about it. I figure there's several million possible paths across downtown and there's no possible way to manually tune downtown to handle any of them. Our problems come from trying to do too much manually. The real smart city doesn't care about who someone is or if they'r...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

So.... what you're saying is this smart city thing could be beneficial after all. /s Not sarcastically, yes, if we think big enough. One street of changes won't help as we've seen. We need traffic control on 200+ blocks downtown all at once. This isn't hard to picture. Take a map of downtown, take ...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

We don't want signal priority, we want OGL enabled downtown so the whole area can be managed as one We need to speed up leaving Main and slow down turning onto it. Who cares if it gets a green light at 7th if it has to wait at 14th because the cars turning left onto Truman back up into the through l...

Across an entire day I would bet your experience is in the minority. Next time carry 40 pounds (groceries) and see if you can do that Just last Friday I hopped on at 3rd at around 3:30pm, got off at 14th, walked over to two blocks Grand to see the bike lanes, north one block to the P&L cut over ...

50th? I never believed Brownback's governing style and tax philosophy would lead to good things, but 50th is literally the worst you can do. Turns out Ayn Rand was an idiot. Obviously Brownback's economic policies were destructive across the board but I wonder how much the "Border War" co...

Re: The KC City Flag

KC I would give, the letter pairing is very well known nationally from baseball and football logos including them. But it could be a different letter pairing, something unique for the flag I would put a black KC right in the middle and find some colors that symbolize the city. With the historic rela...
