Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I would find a teardown to be better if they were taking out two homes and putting up three.

Re: Amenities missing from downtown

What amenities have you seen in other downtowns you'd like to see DTKC? Shade. I'm serious. The walk on nearly every street would be nicer if there was nearly continuous shade available. This doesn't need to be trees, awnings work just as well. An awning can also host the name of a business on the ...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I love the development from the St Luke's Foundation, and the homes look great for all being the same layout. Not really seeing how those are two-car garages, but they mirror many of the single-family homes in West Plaza. But starting prices of $500K!?!?!?! I would have expected costs above $750k f...

$35 million just seems like a LOT of money - I would've liked to see this built on one of the many surface lots or East Village, with UMKC taking over the Lyric building, but there appear to have been forces against all of that.
It was a lot of money 20 years ago.

Loop Trolley ribbon cutting without an opening date. Still don’t have approval to operate. They still don’t have their third vehicle too so will be running half a day, 4 days a week initially. https://www.stltoday.com/news/local/metro/ribbon-cutting-for-loop-trolley-service-set-for-next-thursday/art...

The meeting room wing is looking massive. Anyone know the floor heights of the ballrooms? Elevations are on page 20 http://maps.kcmo.org/kcgis/rest/services/external/DataLayers/FeatureServer/35/45236/attachments/8008 The lower ballroom is up to 30 feet The one above 35 or so Depends on if there’s a...

Could you imagine if Walmart went from being this small retail company to getting involved in all aspects of things related to the internet (Our Lives). There would be outrage. Take away the Internet and think of what walmart was. Auto repair, grocery, music, electronics, books, craft supplies, spo...

KS is less white (76%) than MO (80%), with more Latino of course but also more Asian and Black/other picking up % wise. https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/ks https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/mo KS is growing with international in-migration but domestic out-migration rather high this decade. KS hasn...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

So, fall of 2019? probably. as before, there are penalties for the manufacturer being late. We’re getting close to the one year countdown on the new trains. We're probably right around the 9 month point to the new trains. I would guess at this point that it would take a major delay to take more tha...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

IMHO. I think that our building looks quite a bit better than theirs. Has there been any news on that ultra luxury hotel next to the Loews? Did the project end up dying? If so, I would love to see a Loews branded residences or second hotel tower there eventually. https://www.bizjournals.com/memphis...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

I think part of the problem here is that this is government we're talking about. They do growth projections and build models and then do studies based on those models, and by the time the projections and models and studies are all finished, reality has happened and some of the flaws in the models a...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

It wasn’t 5 year old data, it was supposed to have a 13 year lifespan left as a long term predictive model. They don’t make new growth assessments every year, they’ll probably start on a new one in 5+ years when the terminal opens and they need to assess expansion needs. Deciding to grow the termina...

They bid before they even knew what they wanted. Lost all leverage on cost. Of course, the council doesn’t really care about the price. It’s not coming out of any fund they care about. No one is representing the desires of the people. They did YEARS of studies to figure out what they wanted. There'...

Conversely, this feels like a building where adding new wings in glass could work really well. Purposefully highlight the difference in styles.

Build that onto the back and it would look great.

Re: We need a new airport!!!

A public bid would have come after a lawsuit. The city can’t do a project like this without having a bid process.

Three light was about getting lower cost options downtown with a private project. They’re nothing alike.

There's no residency requirement to use it Colorado. Can't see why there would be one for a prescription in Missouri. Recreational is a different ballgame from medical. You need to have a card issued for medical and I think it is safe to assume there would be a residency requirement. You should rea...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Why do governments bid when they don’t know exactly what they want? It seems that would cause massive increases in price. If you contracted with a house builder and then added a bedroom midprocess they would hit you with a “it’s gonna cost ya” mega increase for sure. Why didn’t we reopen the bid pr...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Didn't Burns & McDonnell offer up a nice, new airport solution to the city well before the voter referendum and heavily criticized bidding process began? Did we just burn that bridge for a wishful (promise) lie that we could get an airport sooner, and for cheaper if we went with ______ company? You...
