Re: OFFICIAL: East Village downtown neighborhood

VanTrust is the master developer for the East Village. I have a feeling they are working on a completely new master plan, and that all the previous plans are moot. The market has changed. New building sizes are easily up 50% from a few years ago and costs are up as well. If they didn’t redo the pla...

21C/KC in Conde Nast Traveler. Watch the video, which isn't about the hotel:
Grand Central Railroad Terminal?
It's not a terminal so that's a sign he clearly had no clue what the name was. Luckily the piece as a whole was so well focused that it didn't really matter.

Re: Misc Crossroads News

I haven't checked permits. Does anyone know what's going in immediately south of this? (Where city barrel brewing was originally slated). Workers have been there past couple of weeks. It's been gutted, all old storefront removed, and today I could see a concrete pump truck on site. Spire Care Cross...

Re: Interstate 70 KC to St Louis

I can say with certainty that anyone who thinks drivers education has worsened has no idea. 20 years ago drivers ed wasn't required, you got a permit at 15.5 and a license at 16 and you were done. Since then things have changed. You can get your instruction permit at 15 now. It requires 40 hours of ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

The bridge between the two concourses would be an interesting space for one.

Alternate windows and fountains running down the wall the entire length of it. Put LEDs behind the water that can be lit up to match what's going on downtown with lit up buildings.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Sounds like the streetcar extension stops still not quite decided... My suggestions.. - If 31st won't have a stop, place stop between 31st/Linwood - Place 39th stop between 39th/Westport Rd - 45th St stop maybe unnecessary? I forget the reason given but I was sold on having 45th when I saw it, desp...

Re: Misc Crossroads News

I think the shoes I'm wearing right now for work came from Bob Jones. Better dress shoes selection in one place than about anywhere within reach. It had the feel of an old shoe store in an old building where they haven't updated the space since 1975 and both the building and decor need work. I'm a f...

Darlene you have the strangest and most negative posts... this building looks great and will massively improve the neighborhood. Just curious, what part of the city do you live in? Probably somewhere around 164939227th & Metcalf in beige paradise. I had to check and at 8 blocks to a mile that makes...

Re: Interstate 70 KC to St Louis

I don't think it would matter, the shorter/faster/easier way to get from KC to Chicago is taking 35 to 80 then 88 or 80 in Illinois, If you took 70 from here to Chicago you would actually be going a little out of the way since St Louis/70 goes southward a little I'll grant you easier - maybe faster...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

The lobby height is HUGE. You're right, the floor to ceiling view out those windows will be stunning. I looked at the plans. Baltimore is where floors are counted from. There's going to be a two-story restaurant on 1 and 2 with direct Baltimore access as well as hotel access. So this will let peopl...

Re: Interstate 70 KC to St Louis

The only thing three lanes would do is let the big trucks drive 60 in the middle lane too.

The state widened US 36 to keep traffic off of I-70 coming from Chicago. It's why it's called the Chicago to Kansas City expressway.

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

I wonder where they plan to move the two KCPL transmission yards? I see several parcels they don't have indicated. I would think that west parking lot at the Cold Storage Lofts would be a likely development site. There are also surface lots south of 3rd Street between Oak and Locust. Be aware this ...

This map is from March so don't assume everything is accurate with it today. Things have changed already, like #15 was completed months back.

They didn’t have working sprinklers. It must be hard to keep these old buildings up to modern code.

Re: Kansas, Missouri battle over companies

RMA and FSA have their office at 63rd and 435 near Swope Park.

There’s TONS of empty land in that development to put a second building up and it has the benefit for them that they could use the same security team for both sites.

There’s five owners now for all that land so it’s definently not something Commerce could pull off alone. It used to be four.

Also notice it requires moving the bridge the streetcar is on.

Re: "Flashcube" Building - 720 Main

All the more reason to tear down Flashcube. It’s got no historic context and obviously isn’t viable without big subsidies due to condition. It also might be nice to include the lots all the way to Central in a ballpark development. Would need to find a way to include the older building in the far n...

Re: "Flashcube" Building - 720 Main

If you think Tower Properties is trying to market those North Loop parking lots for individual redevelopment (or develop them individually on their own), you are delusional. They are banking them (LOL) for something, and it's very likely downtown baseball. The last serious drawing of a stadium on t...
