Re: We need a new airport!!!

Why would they send someone out that can't answer "who" let alone "why" ?????

Re: Streetcar Opposition

If the legislature didn't like the TDD law the way it is it would have been changed already since it's a method to impose *new* taxes

That's the only answer you need.

Re: Poll: Does the Plaza need a drastic change, some change or on the right path?

You're still not getting what I'm saying. I'm saying you're thinking too small by focusing on one shopping center. The opportunities are 100x greater to look beyond the functionally tiny area of 46th Ter to Ward Parkway and Main to Jefferson. Here's a map https://countryclubplaza.com/wp-content/uplo...

Re: Poll: Does the Plaza need a drastic change, some change or on the right path?

There are a lot of locals who've lost interest in the Plaza, the 'boring mall' it has become why does the plaza need to be something for everyone? Why does it need to serve any specific person to be worthwhile with the storefront mix the way it is today? If a great new neighborhood use store wanted...

Re: Poll: Does the Plaza need a drastic change, some change or on the right path?

And cutting down on some retail could provide opportunity for downtown to expand retail. what makes you say these two things connected? would a retailer that wants to locate in one of the premier retail centers in the midwest really locate downtown just because there's no space at their center of c...

Re: Poll: Does the Plaza need a drastic change, some change or on the right path?

Michigan Avenue shopping has an entire mall the size of the plaza just in one building and the shopping district is closer to if you had a two block shopping district from 31st to 47th St in KC. It's not an apples to apples example. The question you haven't answered is why does one specific shopping...

Re: Poll: Does the Plaza need a drastic change, some change or on the right path?

Why can't these things be in the neighborhoods? Why do people have to go to the plaza for neighborhood amenities? A comedy club or music club isn't a bad idea but why must this be on the plaza? If we want to discourage car use on the plaza and get more ped use a concentration of activities isn't the...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

The airport line can not be just about going to the airport to make any sense and it's still expensive to get to the airport. I think about half the distance is getting to the airport from the last logical destination. If I were picking, get it to Tiffany Springs and stop there. You pass by Gladston...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Yes. But we've been talking about long waits and variance in headways, so I think it should be apparent that time, not space, is the variable of interest. Indeed, that's exactly what flyingember pointed out. You're certainly not wrong. Our time gaps should match our physical gaps and it doesn't. It...

Re: Poll: Does the Plaza need a drastic change, some change or on the right path?

About 40 votes so far with over half preferring a bit more mixed up than just retail/restaurants. Doesn't look like too many want something as drastic as changing Nichols Rd to a pedestrian only street, would think it would be a huge long term boost. Take a look at the pics again above, most still ...

Re: Some downtown conceptual/potential projects

Oh well. The orientation of that outfield is just plain wrong anyways. I think only Comerica Park has as south-facing of an outfield as that rendering and it's a problem. PNC Park faces south. It is definitely not the preferred orientation, but clearly, some exceptions are made. Not the best exampl...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Why can't the layovers be shortened when there is a big gap between the streetcar starting the layover and the one in front of it? it's not based on gap size, it's based on travel time between points. Imagine it's Saturday and let's say it takes 6 minutes to get from US to the city market, 7 minute...

There's a graphic here showing positioning of stadiums http://www.hardballtimes.com/lost-in-the-sun-the-physics-of-ballpark-orientation/ Meeting the rule and having a downtown view would be hard except for one place. On the hill at Cambridge Dr, directly west of the Roasterie. Would be a horrible pl...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

It's not light rail and it never will be and that's ok. why can't it be more of a light rail system in terms of stop spacing and speed? Houston is the best example of mixed styles in play. they bought the same trains for their expansion order as we did and run them coupled so it's not the trains th...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Don't get me wrong, I love love love the streetcar when I am able to catch one. But something is going wrong that keeps bunching them up together on one side and leaving long gaps on the other side. And as often as I see one arriving at Union Station right as one is leaving there, those "layov...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

You can't compare it to walking because people walk at different paces and the situation varies. If you're fit and unencumbered with bags, ignore the crosswalk signals and it's very busy downtown you absolutely can beat the streetcar. I one time could see the train at 7th St waiting on a light comin...
