Re: We need a new airport!!!

190026, 27 and 28 is a trio of bills to issue $2 billion in airport revenue bonds.

There's only two signs that could be better

Approval to build from the airlines and government.

Re: Would you like to see the Royals move to a downtown stadium?

To move 10,000 people in 60 minutes takes 20 trains departing every 60 seconds. The existing stadiums and parking takes up 220 acres The entire area between HyVee Arena and 670 (excluding the train tracks) is 110 acres. If parking isn't added we need transit of course. 150 people per train. Let's sa...

Re: Politics

There is so much talk about automated cars recently with Tesla and others working in self driving. I’m surprised that airplanes haven’t also seen movement in this direction. This would eliminate pilot cost and allow automated air traffic control systems. The cost would probably be paid for by the e...

Re: The KC City Flag

My girlfriend ruined the fountain symbol for me by complaining that it just looks like a big flaccid penis. :( You're in for a surprise, people use shapes representing sex organs way more than you would think. The Star of David is a combination of the masculine and feminine symbols The military thu...

Thanks, flying ember. I was just riffing off the alarm at the windows in One Light a couple of years past. But your input is always welcome. b'y the way, are you Kevin Carlisle? I sense a similar tone between you and he who posts on the Star. It's hard to tell between a joke and not sometimes. Wind...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

I see wiggles in the windows. You should and it should change throughout the year glass changes shape as it heats and cools. It’s better than cracking. Air across the surface will change how light passes to you It’s not made 100% flat to begin with There’s a reflective coating that’s not going to b...

Re: Politics

Air Traffic controller is probably the most powerful to strike because it has a long uptake time to learn the skills, it's highly visible in it's results when it happens and it's already hard to replace people in the position.

Re: We need a new airport!!!

I think the design looks pretty shit. Like the Sprint center went from spaceship to what we have, but I still like it. This I think is boring af and all about cost cutting. The rest of the criticism I find largely unpersuasive. I mostly blame the city here. I still wish we could put the port author...

And a bait and switch design.
So edgemoor is the first firm in history to change their design from the beginning to completion?
Given the cost concerns the airlines are having with this design there's a 100% chance that any design from any company would have been changed.

Re: Politics

Through privatization, the number of federal jobs has gone down since 1990. Locally it looks like about 6,000 less workers. I assume many of those functions are being done by contractors. IT is a common one to outsource. There's at least three departments with two agencies in KC that outsource basi...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Because we have inexperienced staff and developer. Their problem was over promising due to not knowing how difficult this is to get going (in my opinion) Hell the city manager promised this would be done in 2021 originally. That shouldn't have been unknown. The 2009 document for the south terminal ...

They're adding nearly 2000 spots more than is required based on the space. At the peak of the mall era when this was the major mall for t...

Re: Ambassador Hotel (1111 Grand)

Minimalism typically fails, ending up looking cheap. They pulled this off! And the monolithic design nicely contrasts the columns next door. The worst thing they could have done is do the current trend of quasi-old. They didn't try to mirror the mass of the building next door with as a modern build...

They could have built state-of-the-art brand new on the corner or at the original planned site on Grand. What a wasted opportunity :-| Not necessarily. Their bank may have required the parking to approve the loan on the current site and the original site isn't owned by them, they may not have been ...

As much as we complain about our metro development though, it's illustrative to see that our metro GDP ($115.4 billion) exceeds GDP of many countries around the world.
