Re: Azul Latin Bistro - 1108 Grand

Great place, excellent food and presentation.  This place is a gem!  Well decorated inside, very clean and hip.  Highly recommended!  I'm embarrassed that its taken me this long to visit the place. I will be a frequent visitor!

Put the monument back and to the left...back and to the left.

Re: P&L District: 13th & Baltimore site proposal

Why would CVS want to move here?  I don't understand.  Their current location is surrounded by four large office buildings.  That site would be across the street from H&R Block -- that's it.  One would have to walk past the grocery store to get to CVS from any of the other major office building...

Re: Grand Slam C-Store

I was recently in Denver and read in article in their alt.weekly about how gentrification was turning cheap liquor stores frequented by addicts into upscale wine/beer emporiums.  As more affluent people moved into formerly run-down neighborhoods they demand posher booze and the 40s of Colt 45 natur...

Time magazine seems to feel Denver's real estate market is not that rosy, at least for residential.

Re: Crossroads - Art of Pizza

Picked up a couple of slices of pizza for lunch today.  I got it take out, so the interior didn't bother me.  I thought the pizza was pretty good, not nearly as good as NYC pizza or anything, but for a KC by the slice place, I was satisfied.  It was reasonably priced too at 1.95/slice.  I'll be retu...

Re: Kansas City Cafe coming to 15th and Grand

Had a great lunch experience there today.  I enjoyed the decor - the walls have large photos of different Kansas City spots.  Placemats were each different, and had photos of KC with numbers on them. The idea was to see how many different buildings you could pick out.  Cute idea I thought.  Menu wa...

Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District

There absolutely have been people disputing the need for the staples in side the district . (See Wooddraw, Crizow, KC12, KC Wildcat) If you were developing a 800 million dollar district that was highly dependent on the sale of condos in the three towers you had planed, would you just sit and cross ...

Not quite, it would have been the tree rescued from the top of the old Empire Theater.

Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District

Has the "large bookstore" been announced?  I've not heard anything.  I can only assume it would be Borders or Barnes&Noble.  How about the location?  It sort of appears, based on the contsruction shell, that it might be on the block diagonal from the grocery store to the SW.

Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District

the P+L is still a "win," but each Lee's Summit Road-style tenant they announce is going to receive derision from me.  i'm not sure why people adhere to the "it's better than nothing!" approach - for $850M in the heart of a rebounding downtown, it had better be fucking AWESOME. ...

You anti-JoCos need to stop layingthe blame for everything that doesn't go right on their doorstep. BS.  You may find a few Johnson Countians who feel this way, but not the majority, and certainly not a higher percentage than you would find in the Missouri burbs.  The biggest reason that Kansans te...

Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District

I agree there is plenty of empty spots downtown to put the boring but neccesary stores (dry cleaners, nail salon etc) How come these empty spaces aren't filled with these stores then?  We don't have these stores now downtown.  We finally get them and people complain???  If I am not mistaken, Cordis...

Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District

I agree.  I can look out my window and point to a couple of vacant spots between Azul's Latin Bistro and Check & Go on Grand Blvd (of the Americas). The GNC would've been jus' fine located across the street from Perk Up! Coffee, Ice Cream & Cookies, and only a block and a half from the P&am...

yeah...GNC, Jos. A. Bank, Chipotle, Starbucks - are we at SummitWoods in Lee's Summit?!  heh. lame, but oh well, the area needs some more mundane, neighborhoody businesses - i guess?  i'd hate for a $850M project to have too many things i can find in Independence. Let's be a little realistic here. ...

Re: Walk - Don't Walk Signs

Well, I just got a call back from Deb Ridgway in response to my e-mail.  The good news is that the city does have a plan to install the countdown style signals throughout the city.  Deb told me that she's working to get the automatic "Walk" signal, but there is an issue with ADA complianc...

Re: Walk - Don't Walk Signs

Have you called / emailed the city?  It's not really fair to complain if you haven't tried yet, is it?  Plus, just talking about it isn't going to get anything done. To many of us here, this seems like a no-brainer.  But for a long time (and even now) many folks want you to get out of the way of th...
