Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Shake Shack is slated for a September 6th opening. Old Navy in the former Gap space sometime this fall. I carried out from Shake Shack lasts week. The line was a little bit out the door, but I was in and out in under 30 minutes. I thought the burger was pretty good. By itself, it was reasonably pri...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Seating, airport gates, and a roof: pick two. People want wider concourses and more retail People want more seating with modern amenities like power everywhere and work spaces People want crazy fancy architecture People want to spend as little as possible People want a fancy fountain People don’t w...

The original KCI ended up looking exactly what they went to voters with.
It's not 1972 anymore... Today's companies care about landing big contracts and large profit margins first and foremost.

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Almost impossible to tell from these poor initial renderings, but where is the awesome scallop-roof design from the preliminary images? I loved that element, and if we get a generic flat box I'll be very disappointed. I understand perhaps losing the two-story indoor fountain, but first impression i...

On this month's TIF agenda is a proposal to demolish the Board of Education building at 12th & McGee and replace it with a 242-room Drury Plaza Hotel. Includes 5,000 sqft of meeting space and 176 space garage. See page 7 of the agenda . KCDowntown My Reaction: LOL Go find your local suburban 4 stor...

Re: Branson

Someone was telling me a couple of weeks ago that Duck Boats in particular have a very bad track record. This is not true. At least not for the Branson ones. They have a pretty spotless record. The problem with a duck boat is that it has a canopy and rides low in the water. If it becomes submerged ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

20 lines is a nice deal! Any backups will not be for lack of capability, so I hope they keep them staffed to keep the average wait down. I arrived around 20 minutes before boarding for my Southwest flight a few weeks ago with an A boarding pass and just jumped into line in the middle of the B board...

That's usually what happens when you're next to a sewage treatment plant. It has nothing to do with standing water or medians.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

US-made steel is already required for federally-funded transit projects, as are vehicles (now approaching minimum 70% US content and 100% US assembly), and a host of other "manufactured" items. What's happening is everyone else is now buying American steel (theoretically a good thing in the long te...

Applying for another BUILD grant (previously known as TIGER). Still advancing to 30% design. Is there a guide somewhere that defines each percentage level in layman’s terms? 30 - ROUGH 60 - Roughly good enough to get a general idea of the final concept and ROUGH costs. 90 - Roughly good enough to b...

It's too bad there weren't any private investors willing to renovate this amazingly prospective piece of real estate.. Instead of having the city foot the bill to tear it down..

So when can groundbreaking be expected? I remember some pretty ambitious goals for getting the new terminal into operation. October. I feel people are confusing different things here. As far as I can tell, the terminal name has very little to do with the airport name. I haven't seen anyone confirm ...

How about the new buck / Broadway bridge named MLK bridge. I like that idea. We all know that the new bridge will be anything but iconic in design, and thus a huge point of moaning and bitching if it's named after MLK.. Please, your honor, make sure the bridge is iconic! I'm afraid my time here is ...
