Re: Kansas City Club
Though I was never a member, I went on a tour of it once. Cool place. I'm sad to see that it closed. I wish someone would reopen it as a less banker/lawyer-only sort of place.

Re: Google picks KCK/KCMO for ultra fast fiber network
Google Fiber has an outdoor WiFi network up and running in Crown Center. It seems they're considering doing a broader rollout of outdoor wireless networks around the city. There have also been rumors over the past several months that Google is contemplating providing mobile phone and Internet servi...

Re: Coffee
I love the KC coffee scene. It's awesome and constantly reinventing itself for the better. For the past few months I've been a member of the The Lab's coffee program. These guys find the best of the best coffee from small roasters around the country and deliver it to your door every month. It's a go...

Re: kansas city restaurant/bar/brewery "cheat sheet"
Great advice, all around. My two cents… If you’re in the loop downtown, you can’t do much better than Milwaukee Delicatessen. Sit up stairs, or next to one of the huge storefront windows and order a slice of pizza (just one, they’re huge) and a beer. OF COURSE, go to the Bloch addition at the Nelson...

Re: Diverging Diamond Interchange at ROE & I-435
Last night KDOT held an info meeting on the upcoming diverging diamond at Roe & I-435. I travel this intersection almost daily and often during the peak of rush hour and I never found it to be a traffic nightmare. But…I guess they feel that it needs replaced, so they need to go full-blown fancy...

Re: Broadway
So here's an idea I just thought of while typing this up. Never once thought of this, but maybe it would work. Anyone have thoughts on a roundabout at 40th and Broadway? This is where the curve starts and several different roads meet up. You have Broadway, 40th street, that alley way, and the side ...

Re: Milwaukee Deli / Pizza 51 Downtown
Man, I really love this place. Went after work on Friday for happy hour and had a great time. Really great space day or night. I’ve been for lunch a couple times now too. I usually get the pizza, because it’s exactly my style, and a great price. You only need one slice, they’re huge. It’s good for t...

ATTN: BAHUA Slate: Land Value Tax Won't Fix San Francisco Here I'm afraid that I'm skeptical. There are lots of places in the United States of America—most places, even—where a tax on land value would be a great thing for housing affordability. For example, if Harris County in Texas replaced its pr...

The reason you pay $25k for your private school (and will probably be paying through the ass once they get to college) is not because your private school or Harvard has some special sauce in the physics curriculum, but because those schools contain all the other good kids - kids who will become you...

The rendering makes me suspect a poor attempt at modern design, but DRAW appears to do some very good work judging from the website. Hopefully this is an early rendering that will be updated. Kansas City does some great modern design (Hufft, El Dorado, BNIM, KIM, etc.), I hope to see more of it arou...

Re: Transition from downtown living to brookside/Waldo livin
5 years ago I moved from the garment district to Volker. I did it primarily so my wife and I could have a yard for our kid but I could still catch the bus to work and walk to a bar (Fric and Frac). I immediately regretted not being able to walk home for lunch every day but I enjoyed the night life b...

Hey, so is this place to plug First Friday shows you’re excited to see? I’m interested in knowing what galleries people here are planning to hit up. I know I’ll be going to see M. A. Alford again tonight. He’s done a couple shows over the past few years on First Fridays and they've all been excellen...

Re: The KCMO School District
There seem to be more families in Midtown than AL can handle. I think there's absolutely a market for another school, and they're probably looking to Hale-Cook as a model. Right now the choice is between enrolling at Border Star for P3, or chancing it in the AL lottery at K. We love Border Star, bu...
