Re: OFFICIAL - Buck O'Neil Bridge
By what definition of "bridge" is the collection of highway ramps currently under construction even a bridge? It's a cluster of highway ramps with a river somewhere below. If I were Buck O'Neil, I'd be deeply offended.

Re: Union Station Bus Terminal?
re: location of a new intermodal terminal: repeating my post from 2005 (!): the city's focus plan envisions an intermodal passenger terminal between main and grand. kcata holds the right to use space for that purpose within a future building that might be constructed at that site (current pershing s...

Re: Metcalf BRT
signal priority is, in my opinion, more a hypothetical benefit than a real one. it's all in how it's implemented by the traffic engineers -- e.g., how far behind schedule does a bus have to be before it triggers signal priority, and then how many additional seconds will the green light be extended? ...

...but in the meantime, what would it take to get MAX Orange to run every bus to UMKC rather than every other bus? i agree. during the csa i asked the ata people about extending the orange line to umkc and they said they tried hard but couldn't make it work. (it's more complicated than just telling...

Re: Generic ongoing KCATA thread
for additional max service on weekends when the demand appears to be evident, the problem isn't the number of buses, but the cost of sending the drivers out in them. there are 28 max buses in all, and current sunday service on the two max routes requires fewer than a third of them. i fully agree tha...

city council voted in 2010 (ordinance 100951) to restore funding from half-cent sales tax to kcata for public transit. now city council wants to go back on that promise and force kcata to spend down its reserves and/or cut service and/or raise fares. ordinance 130173, to be heard wednesday (tomorrow...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
good discussion. it's obvious that we need to be thinking about a lot more than simply running streetcars down the middle of main street. [1] - streetcar phase ii is a terrific opportunity to re-think the whole 47th / ward parkway / main / nichols parkway intersection, including the tennis courts in...

Re: Urban exodus strips KC of too many stoplights
i don't get it. if the city were removing street lights there'd be a legitimate complaint. but stoplights? the city has been replacing signals at dozens of intersections over the past decade or more at a typical cost of about $200k per intersection. they've been able to afford it using federal cmaq ...

still no sign, but sosa's opened for business yesterday.
i had "breakfast" there this afternoon. quite satisfactory.
more important, the owners were on the premises and in active listening mode.
i'm encouraged
ps - move this thread to urban core?

whether more money is obtained to do further infrastructure work, we should expect an important long-term benefit of the green impact zone project to be the community-building that has taken place along the way.

missouri is one of the designated recipient states for the new bi-level cars so we should see it on all or nearly all missouri river runner trains beginning in late 2015. as for missouri river runner speed, top speed on (segments of) the up track bewteen here and st louis is now 79 mph. i'll be surp...

back to the outer loop (topic of this thread), much-improved (rail) transit would be a much smarter investment for the region than another circumferential highway. it's all about getting the region's political leaders (and governor brownback) to see the wisdom of that approach to accommodating the r...
