Re: Amazon searching for second HQ

Definitely. Kansas City’s aging first ring suburbs are probably not high on Amazon’s list. But it would be pretty interesting to see Grandview’s HQ2 proposal.

My midtown Amazon campus idea. Light Blue = Lots for Amazon. Green = new Parks. Red= 31st street light rail (grade separated through this section with 2 stops shown. https://i.imgur.com/izop4qq.jpg Highlights: -clear cut all the homes and businesses between Linwood and 31st -displace thousands of m...

Re: Westport

Surprised this hasn’t been posted yet: Is KC social scene for whites only? Young blacks say they’re ‘tolerated,’ not welcomed Bonny says once while DJing at Firefly in 2011, longtime Westport landlord and business owner Bill Nigro, who was serving as a temporary manager, approached him in the middle...

Charlotte Street Foundation is moving some artists into the old payday loan place at 40th. Not sure what the timetable is on that.

Safe to assume that at least one of the nhoods supported the parking minimums.

Re: Troost developments

IIRC there have been a few homes sell in SP this year, but they've all been done without a listing.

Re: "The East Side" crowdsource definition

For whom does it have to change, in what ways, and by how much? The boundary of the east side TIF that passed in April was telling - the western edge was along Paseo. We've seen a huge change in the last 6 years we've lived here, but it has more to do with who is living along Troost and who we see (...

Re: "The East Side" crowdsource definition

^ Used to think this. Of course, I never would have thought anything east of Oak would have "Brookside" anywhere in its title. Lines change. Not 10 years ago a friend bought on Rockhill and claimed to be in Brookside. We jokingly told him he was in East Brookside. Today, that's a place. R...

Re: "The East Side" crowdsource definition

I'd say east of 71 as well. Squier Park feels like Midtown to me, but that may be because I spend most of my time in SP or Midtown.

IIRC it's dead.

Noticed this morning that there's a sandwich board on Gillham advertising El Torreon as an event space.

Ran into the owner of Ruby Jean's Juicery. He's opening a location at 3000 Troost in about a month. They were doing some work on the interior on Saturday.

Fair point. Add to that the fact that they lost a design competition that they initiated.

Re: We need a new airport!!!

I was referring to the "casual" user of the terminal that like it the way it is, but would vote Yes for a new terminal knowing it was being designed, developed and built by primarily local firms that understand what is best for us, as a city. It will be a hard pitch to convince these peop...

If they can restore a lot of the stuff on the Parthenon, Erechtheion, the Archaelogical site at Epidauros and other sites throughout Greece, Italy etc... Then I think it'd be manageable, especially with modern technology, to restore the sculptural exterior on this building. Though it certainly woul...

Odd that the same day two taller mixed use buildings are proposed for Midtown, a shorter one is unveiled for a prime corner of the streetcar route.

I've heard that it was because bits of it were falling off, so it was probably a liability issue. Seems like that's how a lot of crimes like this were justified, "We don't want to spend the money on maintaining our building so we're just going to ruin/bulldoze it." I'm told it was a workm...
