Re: KCTV5 tower.

Honestly it wouldn’t be such a an eyesore for me if it didn’t rain ice chunks onto the neighborhood, which caused several blocks of midtown around the base of the tower to have to be abandoned. I guess I’m also little salty that the station moved to KS at some point and left the tower here, and I wo...

Wonder how much it would cost to move the stupid thing out to KCTV’s headquarters in JoCo.

Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.

Brick veneer as in thin brick, or as in brick cavity wall? I've seen a few masonry cavity wall buildings go u...

Re: Old KCPS HQ - 12th & McGee

Dramatically altering the curtainwall would probably kill any chance of the project receiving tax credits.

Re: Old KCPS HQ - 12th & McGee

Thanks for posting those photos! The way I remember from the last time I was in there, the upstairs office space aren’t all that special, but the bottom two floors- the board of ed and library - have some lovely, intact mid century modern interiors.

Re: OFFICIAL - Grand Place (former KC Star building)

To me this project seems to be riding the wave development that’s already happened in the east crossroads and because of the streetcar. Which is fine, but I would be surprised if there was much ripple effect from it (despite whatever the incentives applications might say, haha).

It isn't my favorite thing in the world, but I bet it ages at least as well as the any of the recent "contextual" developments.

I like that idea but I’m curious if the market would support anything taller than 2-3 stories there.

Re: Westport

There's some savvy in walking people through sample infill buildings because people routinely think they understand what's in a set of design guidelines and then get out the torches and pitchforks the first time a compliant building they don't like the look of goes to CPC. They may not be urban plan...

Re: Westport

Westport is pretty clearly several distinct areas lumped into a larger designation. It doesn't seem nuts to have different design standards for commercial and residential areas. It's common to many cities.

Re: Troost developments

As of a week or two ago, there was no liquor application at the Bakery. So the brewpub may be in the works for a while. It’s cool that the businesses and real estate agents are having back-slapping symposiums about Troost’s revival, but none of those people gave two shits about Troost 5-6 years ago....

Re: Troost developments

That’s a concern. The word I always heard was that nobody could renovate 909 Linwood with even a few market rate apartments in the mix because the surrounding rental rates were too low. And then the developers would always miss on the LITC funding. Hopefully this will be the end of that nonsense.
