Re: Bike Lanes

IIRC there's federal money for bike infra on Paseo. I can't remember where that project is in the planning phases. And an upcoming streetscape plan will call for protected bike lanes on Troost from Linwood-Cleaver or so. The full striping on Armour has to wait a week for the resurfacing to fully cur...

Re: Troost developments

Having been in many neighborhood meetings on this, I can say that the parking concerns are not widely held. But they are held by a few (really, 4 or 5 people) who are very vocal and somewhat well connected at the city level. It's essentially an issue that HPNA leadership has raised and remained focu...

Re: Troost developments

That sounds nuts, except John Hoffman did that to Longfellow in 2011 or 2012, to increase the value of the houses he was building. After a long and very angry meeting, the city finally agreed to cancel the violations. That they would let a developer do that in the first place is mind-boggling, but t...

Re: Troost developments

It’s delayed until 5/15. Meanwhile, if anyone here lives in Hyde Park, you may want to start demanding answers from the HPNA about what they’ve been scheming on. It sounds like they are searching for a way to come out in opposition to the entire project.

Re: Black leaders seek to rename Paseo to MLK Blvd

It’s about meaning. I’m sure that the origin of the Paseo was meaningful to some Kansas Citians 100 years ago. If the local black clergy is saying that renaming Paseo to honor MLK has meaning for them, great. Rename the street. If they find meaning in renaming a different street, rename that one. As...

Re: Black leaders seek to rename Paseo to MLK Blvd

Ideally they would choose a street that they feel is meaningful and white Kansas City would STFU and be ok with it. If it’s Paseo, then it’s Paseo. That name never made any sense anyway.

Re: 4315-4323 Belleview?

It would be smart if someone mentioned to the city's housing task force that allowing housing to be torn down with no replacement is not helping the situation.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

They still have a good outdoor gear selection - which may make them better suited to places with mountains nearby - and we discovered that the going out of biz sale has everything at least 40% off. In case anyone has any upcoming outdoor adventures planned.

Re: Squire Park / Affordable housing

So... this was complicated. We had a lot of discussions about this within the neighborhood, and there are a lot of Squier Park residents (including myself) who are concerned about affordable housing. There were also a number of people who felt strongly about wanting the 8 square blocks north of 37th...

Re: Troost developments

344 or bust. I don't know if you mean that literally, but would you rather nothing be built than 244 units plus retail? Yes. I'd rather wait for the right development than build a watered-down version of the MAC project. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to restore historical density on a st...

Re: Troost developments

They don't own those buildings to the south and they don't own the lot on the NE corner of Armour and Harrison. That's the main reason they aren't included in this development plan. I know that MAC needs a certain number of units for financial reasons and to offset the risk on the retail portions, b...
