Re: Troost developments

Looks like some work was happening at the Marquette Building at Armour and Forest. There’s some excavation in front and the west doors were open this weekend and it like it was being cleaned out. Given who owns it, who knows what’s actually going on.

Re: Restoring Residential Density

Great that the out-of-towners love the bucolic environs of Midtown but as a resident, it's very hard to get a gallon of milk without a car. That's a problem.

Re: Affordable Housing

Absolutely. That’s a situation where parking maximums may be useful, to keep grocery stores from oversizing their lots to account for day-before-Thanksgiving levels of traffic.

No idea why anyone thinks retail or restaurant would work in that location with no storefront.
But there’s so much parking!

Re: West Plaza

I think its great for the neighborhood and like jasty, think most of the houses torn down were not well kept. Most of the new builds look great either for their contrast to the old bungalows or how they compliment them. There are exceptions. I would say the last round of development when crappy dup...

Re: Academie Lafayette

Very well said. And, again, it’s a mistake to think that this “bitterness” is only held by KCPS board members and isn’t part of a wider opinion held by people voting for the school board. In that context, having Brooksiders’ claim victimhood is counterproductive at best.

Re: West Plaza

So many Kansas City neighborhoods struggle with density that it’s sad to see one of the few that does it well going backwards. If this was a one-off and not part of a larger trend in that area it wouldn’t be a big deal to me.

The land use is inexcusably, irresponsibly bad for an urban neighborhood.

Re: Academie Lafayette

Instead of a neutral focus on education, they have gone off-the-rails for 40+ years on destructive crusades. The school board's attempts to subvert cohesion extends beyond Brookside. They have also ravaged the neighborhood schools that serviced much of the working class areas of the city. That goes...

Re: Troost developments

There are often trans prostitutes on the NE corner of 43rd and Troost.

Speaking of that intersection, it's surprising that no one has tried renovating the apartment building on the SE corner.

Re: Troost developments

^That's a smart read on the situation. It could be tough if the NA asks for more parking. There isn't an adjacent apartment building the developer can buy and tear down to satisfy the neighborhood's demands. :D

The parking and curb cut locations look good.

Re: Troost developments

Almost anything would be better than what is there now. I'm interested how this fits into the site, as it backs up to single family homes. It’s going to be interesting to see how the HPNA reacts. So far the only Troost project taller than 3 stories that they have supported is at Linwood, where ther...
