Re: Westport Terrace at Manor Square

For such a long building, the mixup of windows and patterns help break the monotony. Would even be better to break it up into completely different looking buildings but sometimes attempting to do that looks faux Disney. Ultimately it's not bad. Darker redbrick mixed in would be more Westport aligned...

Re: KC metro growth and migration stats

TAMU has updated metro migration history with 2016 stats. KC's domestic migration in 2016 was the highest since 1997, which had over 6600 net in-migration though birthrate shows lower than late last decade. As posted earlier in thread KC gained about 20K overall in 2016, which isn't 'hot market' ter...

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L

Was there indication of compromise to desire project w/out tearing down BOA? I wouldn't mind if it were 12 or even 20+ stories as that lot is huge enough to do a big project w/out tearing down BOA.

Afterall the compromises for the other project by Char Bar look reasonable for all concerned parties.

Re: Power and Light District Official Tenant List

When you consider the number of clothing retailers completely closing its stores or reducing the number of stores I doubt you will see a chain coming soon. It's just the 'outdated' ones. Most branded clothing stores are trends so may only have 5 to maybe 10 year lifespan, at least at a broad scale....

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L

^Free fare buses would/should be a boost to re-energizing the city core, especially the E Side. With KC's desire to become a 'living lab', that would certainly make for an interesting say 5 year experiment if the TDD or other funding can be pulled off. Many cities have free bus along key shopping/to...

Re: OFFICIAL - Hyatt Regency Convention Hotel

And Cordish doesn't seem to be making much effort with P&L still having several empty retail spots. Hard to grasp how they could let several spots sit empty for years. You'd think offering lower rents and getting some revenue on those spaces is better than none at all. The corner spot across fro...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

The online form isn't working for me. When I fill it out it says that my address is not valid. I suspect it's the condo #. I typed it exactly as listed on my voter ID card and other ways, not taking it. Also, I noticed it shows the address to mail it to in a popup window. Does it also put on the gen...

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L

Seems many Midtowners were not particularly interested in the original downtown streetcar line but now that it's running successfully they want it through Midtown. Even those I know who mostly were concerned about property tax increases now want it as long as it's free to ride. Was almost certain th...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

It's an urbanized area so height shouldn't be a concern, especially with a hotel along a streetcar line that won't have as many visitors creating car traffic. The hotel should maybe artificially limit parking (with a premium daily cost) in order to encourage not renting a car (and should appease the...

Re: Kansas City GO Bond

I'm with Fang on sprawl being the primary factor. Is easy to understand that city maintenance for utilities of a couple 300 unit hirises covering a couple square blocks or less is significantly lower than 600 suburban homes sprawled throughout. With lower density obviously comes longer roads, sewers...

Couldn't the Freeway issues in Atlanta be a blessing in disguise for some people? Its possible that some people never rode MARTA or used the Bus system to commute might just stick to commuting that way and not have to deal with the huge traffic issues in ATL ^And maybe it will prompt more businesse...

KC also needs to develop UMKC into a major university in a way that grows the local economy. The Stowers Institute should be an opportunity to turn UMKC into a more significant research university yet isn't as mature as it could be.

^Thanks for the clarification, the rest of the stretch has been brought up often being now owned by Opus and thought it was also part of project for teardown. Would still be ideal to save the bank building and gut it as restaurant space with exposed brick. Would make a great space for farm-to-table ...
