Re: Politics

The board also has a libertarian contingent too. Moderate independents too who try not to get caught up in such polarization and attempt to levelset the conversation yet isn't sensationalized enough to ponder as reasonable. You know when you watch a Hollywood movie with someone (of any age) buying ...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

Tried the poke bowl place over lunch and liked it. Tried spicy ahi tuna suggested bowl. The options/ingredients are better than other poke places I've tried, including Atlanta and Tampa recently. Tasty, zesty, fresh - great balance. A line was out door entire time but moved fairly fast. Under 10 min...

So 4 barcade type places in greater downtown area now with Rockafire recently opening too. Can all survive a few years? These are way higher maintenance than a typical bar with a few machines.

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

The streetcar had a problem again this morning announcing the next stop before pulling into the upcoming one, confusing everyone. This seems to happen a bit too often. Do drivers have control to sync it up?

The Poke bowl place had a long line before it opened. Thought about trying it but line too long. Will try over lunch next week.

Large report on KC's industrial/warehouse industry. KC blowing away rest of Midwest in % growth of warehouse space last 10 years. Didn't realize KC is 2nd largest hub for auto manufacturing... Kansas City is the second largest hub for automotive manufacturing in the nation, featuring plants for both...

Re: Divide MO into two states?

Didn't expect to have a realistically pursuable conversation about this but MO has some issues with reasonable progress that it used consider more pragmatically in the past as a swing state. Division isn't the best answer maybe but dumping southern third of MO sure would help (and MO per capita GDP ...

Divide MO into two states?

California is voting to divide into 3 states. Have always thought MO should donate lower one third to Arkansas. Better to become a southern state, divide or donate lower third and get back to a swing state? https://www.yahoo.com/gma/proposal-split-california-three-states-makes-november-ballot-085603...

Re: Muehlebach Hotel / KC Club Project

Would think all this event space around downtown would eventually transition to retail space as demand increases, at least some ground floor event space. Downtown has the lowest/best retail vacancy in the metro (consistently under 3%) so maybe sooner than later?

Re: Religion...

In US politicizing religion might be a factor but that has happened in other periods, especially in the 1950s with borderline state sanctioned theism ('in God we trust' added to coins, 'one nation under God' added to pledge in 1950s) - no shifts away from religion then. Churches have their scandals ...

Re: Capping the Loop

^Commuter rail shared with existing freight through burbs could still be in play in future but it is hard to envision new rail after River/UMKC extensions. KC needs to embrace dedicated true BRT paths as it should entice near same level TOD (transit-oriented development) as fixed rail, especially if...

Re: Capping the Loop

With battery technology allowing for hundreds of miles per charge and quick charging (40+ miles with 10 minute charge), LRT and/or a catenary wired streetcar system doesn't seem necessary anymore, especially given they are high maintenance and susceptible to storms/ice/etc. Fixed path transit is imp...
