Re: Bannister Mall/Cerner

Curious, 11M-12M sqft would be unprecedented even on a national scale. In comparison, Hudson Yards project in NYC is 6M sqft office and considered massive, though I think long term a 20M mixed use project and not a single company. Sounds fishy but at the rate Cerner is going, they could be thinking ...

Re: KC sci|tech|startups|entrepreneurial thread

The above are tech jobs only. When including other STEM scientific/engineering/tech services jobs, KC has jumped too, around same level as Austin. There are about 100K total Sci/Tech Services jobs in both KC and Austin. KC Sci/Tech/Engineering Services jobs... https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/ix17e...

Re: Downtown office vacancy

Office developers have been more interested in The Plaza with its under 5% vacancy but given not much less space left hopefully they'll redirect focus downtown. With downtown under 10% and Class A getting closer to 12% vacancy (the historical trigger for spec building), it might start to spur more s...

Re: KC sci|tech|startups|entrepreneurial thread

KC tops in growing tech labor force from 2011-2016 according to this. Not bad considering no major tech university in metro. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/YVsBWtLztc12mSB3RXLMo5YpTpB7-g77X1o1_36K9_-z59qjqUiOuTac4WHwbAXM8JIlp5PavpltObmPieSepLqctbEltfvOCLcoyC1PXoibcyWJlYf_LBGvdPXBXFqCwTTLifc0XBqXx...

Downtown report from CBRE

Here's a recent downtown KC report from CBRE with various stats. Some stats are a couple years old from Downtown Council but I was surprised to see the claim that the downtown daytime population is up to 122K. That seems high. You might need to create an account to download.. https://www.cbre.us/res...

^Ah, yeah, see what you mean. But it might survive with Quality Hill residents if the food is decent, could turn into a neighborhood hangout. And the hotel visitors who want something other than P&L to walk to.

Re: Downtown Tanners closing?

Have youse guys been there yet or just being harsh on the description. Sounds fine and downtown loop could use some off beaten places to eat outside mainstream P&L. Will be a good option for the convention area hotel visitors looking to escape P&L, and for Quality Hill residents. Then again,...

Re: Downtown office vacancy

Here is Colliers' Q3/2017 national report. KC is considered a top 20 market in terms of activity. Vacancy is improving across the board, causing rising rents. That should help build case for new development. KC stats start on page 10. Keep in mind they appear to include Midtown/Plaza with downtown s...

Google Fiber has dropped the price of Gigabit to $55/month in San Antonio. They don't offer 100M service or phone. They offer YouTube TV instead of Traditional PayTV... https://fiber.google.com/cities/sanantonio/ Charter/TWC also plan to rollout Gigabit soon but no word yet on which markets are firs...

Re: Sprint sale rumors again

Now that the Tmobile/Sprint merger discussions seem to be completely over with, Sprint plans to invest supposedly $5B-$6B/year in network going forward. Could mean more jobs in KC too. And if Charter merger happens, overlapping jobs will be very small compared to Tmobile. http://www.businessinsider....

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Even though KC doesn't have a lot of large corporations based in KC, there are a lot of large corporations that have a KC presence. And it looks like KC is safe with Sprint jobs for now that could start to return. Cerner plans to add another 10K+ jobs. KC is growing at a good pace in Pro Biz service...

An article earlier this year quoted KCI officials claiming that KCI has more local passenger traffic than STL does. Can't find it, any confirmation?

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Now that design is the next focus, I am more concerned about allowing for expansion of more gates. Gate management is more efficient in the age of computers but 40-something gates may not be enough long term if KC can build up as a hub. I think the design should allow for up to 60 gate expansion and...

Biz Journal article (paywall). Didn't expect Jackson County to be higher than Northland... I must admit I'm surprised that it passed by such a larger majority. I was worried it would fail, and nothing would happen for another 20 years. I was too based on conversations with people I've run across in Midtown and South KC. Some have since changed their mind and ended up voting for it. Great...

Re: Sprint sale rumors again

Yeah Charter would help capacity for Sprint's area coverage where Charter is present and help Charter expand to new markets with Sprint fixed wireless. Charter could offer OTT TV (like Sling, DTV Now) over fixed wireless as Sprint has more than enough 2500 spectrum. But they need enough backhaul fr ...
