Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

Artificial is exactly what it is. Yet the rail industry was more real and still is. That is KC's true identity, as well as the music that came out of KC, which wasn't country/western. Playing up cowboy as a primary identity is indeed artificial, imported at best. Why embrace something as a primary K...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

Yeah, not really cowboy rodeo culture, which is my point. And there wasn't country/western music produced out of KC, a clear sign not part of that culture - it was ragtime/blues/jazz. Cordish is stereotyping that KC does come from cowboy culture as do many locals who don't understand the difference....

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

KC's early years kicked into gear as a rail center and is now #1 to #2 rail center depending on how measured. That is what should be emphasized as a KC identity. The cowboy representation as a key regional historical component is an outsider myth that some somehow think they should embrace, yet the ...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

Why do you think we have a huge 3 story neon outline of cowboys in our downtown entertainment district A fine example of cordish's aesthetics being a bit too context sensitive It's Cordish stereotyping of KC in hyperdrive. KC region never had a true 'cowboy' culture, which is a SW thing. There is n...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Agree that if 31st and Linwood both don't get stops then put streetcar stop in between. Hopefully an express bus (Waldo to Barry Rd via N Oak) is someday overlapped down Main or Broadway (Midtown segement), which can hit the heaviest crosstown bus stops through Midtown/Downtown.

Re: Poll: Does the Plaza need a drastic change, some change or on the right path?

With Plaza struggling to adapt, any new thoughts on need for a different path? See first post. Will send this thread again to new Plaza owners.

So far about 70% think Plaza needs to mix things up or more drastic change, about 20% say stay on the path they are heading.

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Start with a well publicized free bus from Northland to Downtown for Broadway Bridge closure (North Oak line from Barry Rd to CC). Might be easier to pass something like a TDD along impacted districts when taken away then upgrade to a free MAX line, ideally true BRT most of way with signal priority.

SE Asian is my favorite to cook and have heard of these, so literally curious. & noted but playing the stereotyping card is a bit of an overreaction. Some interesting actual Laotian eats... wouldn't mind trying some. Have tried ants/insects when in Central and S America, tasty if prepared or sau...

Attitude feels much like You Say Tomato, different twist on comfort breakfast - pretty good. For a good deal at Cafe Europa, try the breakfast english muffin sandwich - ask for side of salsa verde as it's otherwise dry, this perks it up a notch too. Served with our favorite breakfast potatoes in tow...

Re: Generic ongoing KCATA thread

I used to tap Verify in front of them until I had one driver get annoyed that he couldn't see the numbers changing. Now I hit Verify before I board and hold up the phone for them to see "Verified" with changing numbers. That has been working without issue for a couple weeks now. I also no...

Re: Generic ongoing KCATA thread

Everytime I use the mobile boarding it seems to piss off the drivers. No idea why. Just now I got told "it's upside down" when tapping the verify button for him. Before it's been "you did it too fast" among other complaints. WTF? Seems they want to see the time moving, not the c...

Link with migration? I found this but not showing migrations... https://factfinder.census.gov/faces/tableservices/jsf/pages/productview.xhtml?src=bkmk Domestic net migration over 8500 would be the most KC has seen since '97, highest overall otherwise. Not hot market territory but good for KC. KC nee...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Yeah agree, the Plaza needs a movie theater if even just a few screens. Is Cinemark pulling out or being pushed out? They could still operate the E Wing screens, though may not be interested losing the larger screens in W Wing..
