Re: Hotel Phillips to get multimillion dollar freshing up

Something about this place is just not clicking right, including the feel of the room. Same with the strangely designed coffee joint on other corner. Before the 80s, top chefs were dependent on the hotels funding top restaurants. Since the 80s chefs have been able to get loans or investors of their ...

Re: 50s/Main development

We just got back from Elly's. Above average basic+ diner eats, nicely unfancy (lacquered raw cracked floors, no cliche theme, basic tables, some booths, minimal leaning but modern decor). Food not destination worthy but better than doable if in area, good enough to add to area breakfast rotation. Th...

Re: Do you have or plan to get Google Fiber?

KC rumored to be one of first few markets to get Charter/TWC Gigabit, though it's only 35Mb upload, possibly starting Dec 19. A test market is $105/month but they may have to charge less in KC with all of the cheap Gigabit presence. Will be more interesting to see how they price lower tiers. https:/...

Re: 50s/Main development

This stretch is developing into a nice contiguous restaurant row from Stock Hill building also getting 4 more restaurants like Larkburger from Denver, a health food restaurant and a brunch cafe (Elly's from Chicago) and then several existing like the sushi/pizza/sub places to Black Dirt (not yet ope...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Is that The Point bar or across the street? There is a row of small bungalows on SW stretch, the way the incline shows am thinking it's that stretch. The diagram references pre-fab aluminum balconies, corrugated metal and painted steel. Sounds like it could go up quickly and that location is fine fo...

Re: KC Bike share

A hybrid might be the best balance. Smarts in the bikes/app with city approved dedicated 'dumb' stations/racks. Would be a good balance of lowering cost, broader deployment yet giving it some structure. Those smart docking stations are expensive.

^That, Nica's should be an entry in the Urban Dictionary for 'tryingtoohard' and 'overlycomplicated'. Beignet is pretty good though.

Finally. Was concerned Hawthorn would be ultimately torn down. This is about as good as could be desired to kickstart that area.

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

I could see why Beignet would want a larger spot but Windows's space is huge for what is otherwise a quaint eats counter. Would hate to see this place ending up not making it if not able to handle the rent for a space that size. Maybe they have ambitions to become KC's Cafe du Monde. It is just abou...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Not suggesting getting rid of all the office space above retail, but some of it. It's time to make the Plaza 'bowl' truly mixed use. Your other ideas are a good way to get there.

Re: Misc Crossroads News

^Nothing wrong with that, same can be said for any tall building not near transit. Though a bikeshare station would help a bit. Don't see the need for a recommended height, especially given the access to 71 not far.

Great job on restoring the facade. I walked by there last week and it still had some gaps, looks complete now.

Re: OFFICIAL - Corrigan Building

Yeah, is disappointing that such a small building would be planned along streetcar line. I could see these 'prefab looking' buildings dispersed around Xroads but the streetcar line deserves more substantial developments. Though more important is the pedestrian integration and the 'car park' entrance...

^Careful, chingon might call you out for stereotyping.

The building comes with a large garage, won't be surprising if most drive the two blocks to Plaza.

An office building at NE corner of 47th/Main is going residential, luxury senior living. Would like to see some of the office spaces above Plaza retail also go residential.

Re: Three Light

Too bad Two Light wasn't completed enough for homes tour, that could've grabbed a few signups. But isn't there a Spring tour as well? Seems few are concerned (as I am) that Three Light may look like Two Light so if there isn't a push for mixing things up, no need to put out a rendering if it's just ...

Re: KC Bike share

^That could work as a more simplistic station-based method. There's one system that doesn't have GPS on the bike. It's just a barcode, basic texting radio or NFC and smartlock. The user scans barcode or uses NFC, it unlocks bike and then they use the GPS from user's smartphone app to check the drop ...
