Re: Poll: Does the Plaza need a drastic change, some change or on the right path?

With the Plaza lease losses and no signs of significant improvements, I'll send this thread to the new owners again. Continue to post any ideas here for change. See original post as well and vote in the poll. Can also change vote. I'll update the original post with any new ideas and send to owners.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

^If you mean because they can be unreasonable and let politics get in way, yeah, would expect that. But the most reasonable solution is to do what is most optimal for such a primo spot and it wouldn't be surprising if those in control don't even bother to consider what is best for the larger whole. ...

There is way to share Google Photos on forums but it's involved...

Open in Google Photos and 'share' the photo, select 'get link', copy link, paste the link into another tab, click photo, right click over photo and copy image address. Then past that into forum.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

^The tennis center property doesn't have to be sold off to become a transit center (transit park?) with amenities. Anything that is in alignment with potentially thousands of daily people likely to be at the Plaza streetcar stop (especially weekends) would be better than a few dozen people (100 peak...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

I like the idea of a roundabout, but something would need to be done with the intersection at JC Nichols/47th - it routinely backs up for WB traffic all the way to Main. The roundabout could be large enough to include that, wrapping around current tennis center (replacing/restructuring with transit...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Unless they could move the tennis courts to another Plaza location seriously doubt they would sacrifice the courts for anything. Tennis players per day: A few dozen and less during winter? Potential streetcar daily riders going by Plaza: Likely 5K+, maybe 10K+ peaks (it will likely be one of busies...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

If a roundabout occurs in that location whether large (taking out tennis courts) or small (as above), they'd probably need to have many speedbumps to keep traffic at reasonably slow pace with prominent signs noting that it is a pedestrian/streetcar zone. Am not convinced a roundabout is the way to g...

Re: Amazon searching for second HQ

Would think DC makes top 3 on short list. Given AMZ likely to be a top 5 most valuable tech company long term they'll eventually have a DC area office tower filled with lobbyists anyway. And Bezos owns WaPo. Seems DC has a great shot and for Apple HQ2 too as the US heads towards Corporatocracy - Goo...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

As discussed before if Main/Midtown is getting a road diet, they should reconfigure Bside Blvd to dump into Broadway/JC Nichols instead of Main and encourage 47th traffic to use Gilham and Bway instead of Main. That would likely mean taking out the tennis courts, which could also be converted to a t...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

^And curb running would make it easy to align with bus sharing same streetcar stops near or long term. You could buy left entrance buses but why acquire special buses, makes sense to use existing. Ideally there would be an express bus with streetcar providing local service stops about same as MAX to...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

What's the goal for expansion, to act as local service or commuter line? The downtown stretch is clearly local oriented service. Ideally there would be an express bus with streetcar providing local service stops about same as MAX today, maybe one or two less stops, and then the express bus from Wald...

Re: Amazon searching for second HQ

Agree and has been discussed often. Lack of a strong university within metro was possibly a factor as AMZ mentioned access to a major university as a preference. KU is not a bad school but not considered part of metro and not on many top 100 lists. Lack of high profile university in region (outside ...

Re: Three Light

If they are planning on going condo, they might be looking at higher end finishes and amenities. It mentions Cordish is considering up to 10% of units for sale/condo, so will be interesting if they do higher end finishes than rental units. If they decide to head into sales, they could potentially o...

The most interesting quote from the article is non-three light related. Matt Zammar of Re/MAX Legacy, one of the area's leading condo agents, recently advised Winters that a developer plans at least one new condo tower in the Crown Center area. Nice catch. Might post over in CC thread. Interesting ...
