Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Not suggesting getting rid of all the office space above retail, but some of it. It's time to make the Plaza 'bowl' truly mixed use. Your other ideas are a good way to get there.

Re: Misc Crossroads News

^Nothing wrong with that, same can be said for any tall building not near transit. Though a bikeshare station would help a bit. Don't see the need for a recommended height, especially given the access to 71 not far.

Great job on restoring the facade. I walked by there last week and it still had some gaps, looks complete now.

Re: OFFICIAL - Corrigan Building

Yeah, is disappointing that such a small building would be planned along streetcar line. I could see these 'prefab looking' buildings dispersed around Xroads but the streetcar line deserves more substantial developments. Though more important is the pedestrian integration and the 'car park' entrance...

Hallmark selling 2-block lot in E Xroads, SE corner of 19th/Oak... “We believe it will be sold for someone to develop as a multi-use project with multi-family residential,” said Stacey Paine, president of Crown Center Redevelopment Corp. a Hallmark’s real estate subsidiary. “Obviously, apartments wo...

^Careful, chingon might call you out for stereotyping.

The building comes with a large garage, won't be surprising if most drive the two blocks to Plaza.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

An office building at NE corner of 47th/Main is going residential, luxury senior living. Would like to see some of the office spaces above Plaza retail also go residential.

Re: Three Light

Too bad Two Light wasn't completed enough for homes tour, that could've grabbed a few signups. But isn't there a Spring tour as well? Seems few are concerned (as I am) that Three Light may look like Two Light so if there isn't a push for mixing things up, no need to put out a rendering if it's just ...

Re: KC Bike share

^That could work as a more simplistic station-based method. There's one system that doesn't have GPS on the bike. It's just a barcode, basic texting radio or NFC and smartlock. The user scans barcode or uses NFC, it unlocks bike and then they use the GPS from user's smartphone app to check the drop ...

Re: DIVERSITY

Fair enough. But xenophobic nationalism is definitely present in same areas as such identity, even a sense of American superiority - some might say a good chunk of Trump's base. And it's not difficult to correlate with identity, wildly stereotyping or not. Yeah, I suspect it has some overlap, not cl...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Pretty consistent. Is it true most new systems have a significant drop after first 'novelty' year? Am thinking I've read about that. Would think continuing population growth and more downtown events will eventually bump that up.

Re: DIVERSITY

Genetic genealogy is an interest of mine and there are a lot of folks of colonial American ancestry who go all in on it - the tl;dr version is that the consumer-level autosomal tests (Ancestry, 23andMe, etc.) have a very hard time reliably distinguishing NW European ethnicities apart, as (surprise!...

Re: DIVERSITY

Maybe it's the new era of Provincial Nationalism, to reject ancestry. OTOH, some simply can't tag their ancestry or have unfortunately lost that identity. We are likely all ultimately from Africa so what does ancestry really mean. Perhaps ancestry is only as important as to which era you _want_ to i...

Re: KC Bike share

The problem is there's no way for someone to be certain the bike wasn't in the rack without it being the dock style that can read the bike from the stand. Dockless bikes don't work that way. The smarts are in the bike, not the station so dumb racks can be used. The bikes have GPS built in and some ...
