Re: Attracting Employers Downtown (and Urban Core)

Having a major urban research university would certainly help. Especially important for any research related industries KC is pursuing (smart city, tech, animal health). KC does pretty well growing white collar jobs w/out it but could struggle drawing research related companies to area. KU/K-State/M...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Any talks of including 'smart city' sensors, kiosks, etc with the extension? Does anyone actually use those kiosks? I do to check location of streetcar. Just hit lower right transit icon. But haven't used for anything else. Maybe visitors do? There's a report in other thread claiming the kiosks are...

Re: Attracting Employers Downtown (and Urban Core)

Some of the challenges depending on employer... - Some want large blocks of cheap nearby parking, especially more difficult with over 1K employers (essentially free in burbs). - Some want larger floor plates (easier to find/build in the burbs). - Metro wide transit not effective enough, though centr...

Re: On-going downtown development projects

^Nice to see that lot marketed. 28K sqft land for $2.5M. Any records of how much other recent central downtown lots sold for in comparison? Perhaps other lot owners would be more willing to sell if that lot sells for that much. Would be nice to see large open lots developed around 7th/8th and Wyando...

Closing at 1-1:30AM seems worth trying for a summer. It may just push the problem to P&L though.

Re: OFFICIAL - ARTerra (21st and Wyandotte)

I can understand why a developer wouldn't start out as condos because they take too much time to sell and/or need to sell a good half of building before starting construction. Starting out as leased units then once full convert to condo has been the national pattern for a while now. The market condi...

Like them all for various reasons, even the practical ones. Unless there is a significant benefit not to go local, go local.

Re: Politics

Back to North Korea, looks like Kim J is holding off on more testing (towards Guam) for now. But with two hot heads in the picture, obviously it wouldn't take much to escalate again sooner than later. It seems there is no scenario for NK to get rid of its nuke program and eventually will be able to ...

Re: OFFICIAL - Hilton Home2 Suites Hotel (20th & Main)

It's turning out much better than the initial design, which was terrible. But missed opportunity to go much taller with more units as a hotel along a free streetcar line doesn't need a lot of parking.

Re: OFFICIAL - ARTerra (21st and Wyandotte)

^When the demand returns you'd think, which could be soonish given Plaza market picking up. Mid-priced Plaza condos don't seem to stay on market too long, over $500K units can take much longer. Is common for a building to have up to 10% of units for sale, just checked and most Plaza buildings appear...

Re: OFFICIAL - ARTerra (21st and Wyandotte)

Arterra will go for $2.30/sqft like Two Light. Can KC continue to draw downtown luxury growth at these rates? If so, maybe downtown can attract more hirise developers.

Re: Politics

Yeah even if NK nuke capability and distance is overstated (some claim 60 nuke missiles), they can still target Seoul and Tokyo and wreak havoc with traditional bombs (10K tubes and 5K tons of chemical weapons reported), which they are more clearly capable of. This is an example where Trump's reckle...
