Re: Westport

Has there been serious consideration for re-configuring the clusterfuck as a roundabout? Seems that might make it worse from pedx experience unless an island is used between each direction. And may not be doable with 3 lanes each way unless using lights. Doesn't seem like there can be a good solutio...

Re: wtf is happening to w. 39th?!

W39th only has a couple national chains - Starbucks and Chipotle. Was just a matter of time more moved in. Will the neighborhood welcome another chain or hardcore locatarian? At least it's a doable one.

Re: OFFICIAL - Hotel Indigo Crossroads (former KC Costume Company)

What's up with this trend of white walls/ceilings for lounges, modern restuarants and coffee shops. It's generally not comfortable, tends to lean as bland sterility and often too bright. Particularly distasteful when white walls are mixed with red brick (WTF Daily Nada). Wonder if it's some kind of ...

Re: OFFICIAL - ARTerra (21st and Wyandotte)

Nah, looks close enough to one single giant cinder block (painted tan) with windows carved in. It looks as if the windows were retrofitted later into the block. Yeah granted, I'm judging before complete. Is just disappointing that the rendering looked well above average (sharp actually) and the outc...

Re: Uptown Shoppes

No more new drive throughs in Midtown! can only dream _____ I suspected this would not be an urban minded developer, not surprised hotel isn't streetfront along Broadway. Am thinking it's bait anyway and won't happen. Maybe better to just put a long narrow cafe along Broadway stretch but imagine tho...

Am all for complementing contrasts but a utilitarian cinder block 'looks good'?

Re: OFFICIAL - ARTerra (21st and Wyandotte)

Am in the disappointed camp. Would look better with permanent industrio scaffolding as a facade. Turned out as a cinder block with windows. Does not complement the surrounding red brick buildings, sticks out like a sore thumb. This is as obnoxious as white walls with red brick (Daily Nada) but at le...

Re: Uptown Shoppes

If the city controls the parcel and the shops are mostly vacant, why not demolish and start over? That retail is never going to be hopping because it doesn't address the street in an otherwise walkable neighborhood. I've seen similar strip malls in other cities converted w/out tearing down. One was...

Re: Bird Scooters Have Landed

I figured there might be a way but it did push me to buy a Wallet on second ride, and I did spur of moment. I didn't see a way to bypass and wanted to get on so didn't delve.

Re: Bird Scooters Have Landed

Not too thrilled with Lime's pre-allocated Wallet method as a user but it is brilliant on their part. If a Bird and Lime are near each other, I'm more likely to grab Lime unless low on power.

Re: Uptown Shoppes

This doesn't include potential hotel at corner. Better than expected but doesn't integrate with Broadway sidewalk very well. Would like to see a Sprouts here if not a local market. https://www.kansascity.com/latest-news/qtaeyz/picture218621370/alternates/LANDSCAPE_1140/Uptown%20Lofts.jpg https://www...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Would think at this point if any month has lower ridership than previous year it would be due to fewer events for the month, bad weather or operational issues. The steady rise of downtown population and hotel rooms should otherwise increase ridership, more streetcars added or not. Would be interesti...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

More cars running at same time with shorter wait times might grab more that just go to the next stop vs walking. I usually walk in those cases if not seeing a streetcar but will wait for it if not far from stop. And of course during busiest packed periods/events, it should usually mean more riders p...

Re: OFFICIAL - City Club Apartments (former Midwest Hotel)

If the free streetcar didn't exist would say each primary downtown neighborhood should ideally have its own small market and/or drugstore. But with free streetcar, CVS and Consentino's are just a horizontal elevator ride away. Still, would be good to have Walgreens somewhere downtown for competition...

Re: Uptown Shoppes

Agree the plan sounds great on paper, confidence in Larry Sells to pull it off is the challenge. Could end up half-assed, even if selecting an urban minded developer who would build hotel directly up to sidewalk. Anything in that lot would be an improvement but hopefully they do it right and integra...

Re: Bird Scooters Have Landed

If there were a thousand Segways for rent on the streets it would be a bit different than a patrol rider. Wouldn't mind seeing the app saying 'potential $50 fine for riding on sidewalk'. It doesn't have to be enforced but should reduce sidewalk riding. I've seen some very poor sidewalk placement (in...
