Re: A quick population hypothetical for data fiends

On a related tangent, Jackson County as a whole had it's first positive net gain of domestic migration last year (2016) since being tracked. See bottom of page...

Yeah, could see CAPEX vs OPEX as the driving factors. So it would seem you are indicating any changes would be considered for next year's or following year's budget. Will ideas in this thread reach KCATA?

Re: KC Bike share

Looks like KC BCycle is exploring new technologies such as smart bikes at a bike rack anywhere rather than smart docking stations... https://kc.bcycle.com/buzz/2017/12/07/responsible-bike-share If they go there, hopefully it will have some level of control compared to other dockless, such as require...

So Dave, will the ideas get any traction? Some good ideas posted. Are there any realistic next steps in progress?

Re: Bike Lanes

I do not know their methodology or how they construct the map, but as you can see- downtown's bike usage is primarily concentrated on Grand. Was talking to a 22yo cyclist/promoter at a Hyde Park dinner last night; has volunteered at 816 Collective, worked a couple bike shops and also once did a gig...

Yeah as some unfortunately oppose more density. This project hasn't made the media yet so still possible for NIMBYs to react.

Not a good sign if even you don't know. Thought I saw some scrap removal work or something like that walking by a few months ago but nothing since.

Re: Hotel Phillips to get multimillion dollar freshing up

Prime spot that maybe deserves better. Before the 80s, top chefs were dependent on the hotels funding top restaurants. Since the 80s chefs have been able to get loans or investors of their own, breaking away from the hotel control. But this is one location that would be great for a top local chef, a...

Re: 50s/Main development

We just got back from Elly's. Above average basic+ diner eats, nicely unfancy (lacquered raw cracked floors, no cliche theme, basic tables, some booths, minimal leaning but modern decor). They have a separate espresso bar with a small counter but was hoping for that classic low slung long diner coun...

Re: Do you have or plan to get Google Fiber?

KC rumored to be one of first few markets to get Charter/TWC Gigabit, though it's only 35Mb upload, possibly starting Dec 19. A test market is $105/month but they may have to charge less in KC with all of the cheap Gigabit presence. Will be more interesting to see how they price lower tiers. https:/...

This stretch is developing into a nice contiguous restaurant row from Stock Hill building also getting 4 more restaurants like Larkburger from Denver, a health food restaurant and a brunch cafe (Elly's from Chicago) and then several existing like the sushi/pizza/sub places to Black Dirt (not yet ope...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Is that The Point bar or across the street? There is a row of small bungalows on SW stretch, the way the incline shows am thinking it's that stretch. The diagram references pre-fab aluminum balconies, corrugated metal and painted steel. Sounds like it could go up quickly and that location is fine fo...

Re: KC Bike share

A hybrid might be the best balance. Smarts in the bikes/app with city approved dedicated 'dumb' stations/racks. Would be a good balance of lowering cost, broader deployment yet giving it some structure. Those smart docking stations are expensive.

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

I could see why Beignet would want a larger spot but Windows's space is huge for what is otherwise a quaint eats counter. Would hate to see this place ending up not making it if not able to handle the rent for a space that size. Maybe they have ambitions to become KC's Cafe du Monde. It is just abou...
