Re: OFFICIAL - Fairfax Lofts/Hotel Indigo (former Brookfield Building)

Like this project. Any indication if the residential units will be able to use the services of the hotel? The website doesn't indicate.

Re: KC sci|tech|startups|entrepreneurial thread

KC ranks 29th according to this tech talent index, so basically about same ranking as market size. It claims a significant 39% increase of tech talent in KC since 2011...

Re: KC Bike share

Dave, are you still involved with bikeshare? Any indication if the new station locations are selected from a pool of sponsors or if some stations were specifically sponsored by the property owner? Mix of both? If a building owner sponsors its own station, do its tenants get say, discounted annual pa...

Re: KC Bike share

Huh that's interesting about Longview Lake, didn't zoom out far enough or it was just added. A single station way out there is odd, clearly targeting leisure riding only. Adding more still? An experiment?

Maybe with only one along Amour it will encourage MAC to sponsor more stations.

Re: KC Bike share

Six new bike stations showing up on map as "Coming Soon"... https://kc.bcycle.com/station-map Two on W side of River Market, two on w39th, only one on Amour (would expect 2-3), one near UMKC student center. That's 6, there was a mention of 7-8 possible so maybe a couple more coming. Pretty...

Re: Ambassador Hotel (1111 Grand)

The aesthetics will only be a problem, IMO, if they use cheap windows and/or do EIFS instead of proper stone veneer. But I'm with dave, that ground floor is pathetic. At the very least, they should swap out the front row of stalls and entry drive for a small 1,000 sf retail space like 1914 Main doe...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Agree that it should be Taubman investing in pedestrian street not city. And it doesn't have to be all 3 blocks of Nichols, could start with just one block and expand if/when it makes sense. Have been to various pedestrian streets/souks around the world, Nichols in context to rest of Plaza is about ...

Re: Amenities missing from downtown

^That's it. Was a great neighborhood hangout market. RM could use something like this again, every pedestrian-oriented neighborhood actually. If Market 3 partnered with a local chef they could potentially elevate it to this degree and perhaps eventually expand to other city core locations getting ec...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

We'll probably see a lot more 'legoblock' infill but as long as these are scattered and not a cookie cutter row of them. The streetfront experience needs to be improved. They did a really poor job just to the North and this doesn't look much better.

Re: Rankings, lists, and such

For those who think KC is still a segregated metro, it doesn't make it in top 16 anymore according to... http://247wallst.com/special-report/2017/07/21/16-most-segregated-cities-in-america/2/ KC ranked 9th in 2015 by same site, though it looks like they only included MO side of KC metro in this list...

Re: Ambassador Hotel (1111 Grand)

Minimalism can work at times but there's such a thin line for pulling it off or looking cheap, mostly it ends out looking cheap.

Looks like a cinder block.

Re: wtf is happening to w. 39th?!

There was something odd about the execution of that place. Needs a better manager and per another thread, maybe the market could partner with a local chef to create some buzz. Or it may need a larger local player with economies of scale like a Consentino's if they'd be willing to get into the small ...

Re: Amenities missing from downtown

Remember that chef driven counter eats with 'store' near 2nd/Main about 15 years ago? It was very popular at first for lunch but RM didn't have the population base back then and it didn't make it. Something like that needs a second chance in RM area, a better balance of eats and market. Or Market3 m...
