Re: We need a new airport!!!

KCI should invite Wow Air for design input of new terminal. If they are involved and engaged even in a small way, they may be more enticed to make a move. They are still considering KCI for expansion in 2019.

Re: Rankings, lists, and such

Columbus actually has been growing at a faster pace than KC lately. But apparently Columbus is not keeping quite as many higher educated long term. The difference in education level is slim but I expected Columbus to be ranked much higher than KC with such a huge university presence. Columbus growth...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

BTW, KCI ranks an abysmal 38th in passenger traffic due to not being a hub. It ranked better than 30th when a mini hub for Vanguard. https://www.transtats.bts.gov/airports.asp?pn=1&Airport=MCI&Airport_Name=Kansas%20City,%20MO:%20Kansas%20City%20International STL used to be in top 10 at TWA p...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

If Austin in any indication, they have regular flights to London and seasonal to Frankfurt. KC has potential to become a lower medium sized hub but wouldn't expect many Euro flights unless that happens.

Re: KC sci|tech|startups|entrepreneurial thread

STL study that shows various stats about top 50 markets... Some KC Rankings that are higher than KC's market size (US, Midwest). KC metro ranks about 30th in population. Manufacturing/Tech Startups (16th in US, 1st in Midwest) Manufacturing Productivity (16, 3) Adults with Bachelors (18, 3) STEM Job...

ldai_phs mentioned a July update on last page, which spurred the discussion again. But no link on update found. Have pinged Kevin Collision about checking into it.

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion

(1) NKC or (2) Independence Ave These two make most sense for next streetcar expansion with commuter rail to burbs. Most Brooksiders don't want it, though Waldo probably does. And it would be great to see ATA pursue free bus mostly metro or city wide. Dave mentioned that as a possibility, maybe hol...

On another topic, heard that Cerner is reimbursing employees $5K on buying a home if within 3 miles of new campus. True?

Re: The Future of Crown Center

^Good tidbits. I've pinged Kevin Collison, asking him to check into any actual movement with CC plan lately, particularly office space. Downtown vacancy is just about at the point that it's possible CC might go for an office building w/out a major tenant signed. Plaza vacancy is really tight but the...

^Likely the case but a July release/update is mentioned. I don't recall previous master plans specifying 2M sqft office. But given no word from development media since July, maybe not much to it.

Re: The Future of Crown Center

4 new office towers with a combined 2 million sqft of office space, additional retail, and residential buildings are all planned for Crown Center per a Crown Center release. Re: Bannister Mall/Cerner

Curious, 11M-12M sqft would be unprecedented even on a national scale. In comparison, Hudson Yards project in NYC is 6M sqft office and considered massive, though I think long term a 20M mixed use project and not a single company. Sounds fishy but at the rate Cerner is going, they could be thinking ...

The above are tech jobs only. When including other STEM scientific/engineering/tech services jobs, KC has jumped too, around same level as Austin. There are about 100K total Sci/Tech Services jobs in both KC and Austin. KC Sci/Tech/Engineering Services jobs... https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/mTR1A...

Re: Downtown office vacancy

Office developers have been more interested in The Plaza with its under 5% vacancy but given not much less space left hopefully they'll redirect focus downtown. With downtown under 10% and Class A getting closer to 12% vacancy (the historical trigger for spec building), it might start to spur more s...
