Re: OFFICIAL: Port Authority Riverfront Project

Hopefully these will feel seamlessly integrated into each other from a pedestrian perspective, not a series of isolated island projects.

Re: 4400 Washington

I've run into suburban people here (from Olathe and Lee's Summit) who think red brick equals ghetto. Literally stating it out loud. Perhaps the decision makers for these two buildings are from the sterilized exburbs.

Re: OFFICIAL - Strata (H&R Block's 2nd Tower)

I'm indifferent on whether this fails because if the developer has tenant interest they could always find a surface lot to build same project. Would rather see surface lot developed given there is already something functional in this spot. Let Cordish build their residential tower here.

Re: 4400 Washington

I never understood the purpose of this project, refacing the existing building. The red brick facade was fine and looked better than this. Were there structural or leaking issues within the brick mortar? It looks very Overland Park bland beige.

Re: Westport

The building that was torn down was not appealing and not from Westport's original era but the replacement is pretty bland too, almost a pad site building. Agree, lost opportunity.

Re: Streetcar to the riverfront

If the streetcar was built to the isle of capri, would it be possible to build massive park and ride garages, and maybe save a space nearby for another one. That way it could keep more parking out of downtown, and give visitors a definitive place to park in order to use the streetcar. Good to hear ...

Re: Bird Scooters Have Landed

I didn't have this issue but agree, this isn't good. Most wont bother and move on to Bird/Spin. However Drop is 15 cents/min vs 33 cents/min for Bird/Spin so worth the effort in the meantime. Drop needs to get a US-based bank authentication. RideKC needs to be informed of this issue and pursue a sol...

Re: Metro Employment Stats

Put another way, nearly 10% of KC metro employment is in Sci/Tech services, likely to exceed 10% next several years given one of faster growth segments. Not as high as Austin but comparable to Denver, higher than DFW/ATL % wise and rest of Midwest. KC Telcom jobs took a big hit last two decades thou...

Half of KC's metro Pro/Biz employment is Scientific and Technical Services , over 100K of the 200K above post, also higher than rest of midwest per capita and more comparable to hot markets. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/q7XYta46SyZZF-hq0DS3SZUw_xgWHvyCmQDElyyP3OFwYWwDv2C5LVcCZwYgzQqrl4CVd_S8q7X...

Re: Westport Terrace at Manor Square

Better looking. Ideally the Mill St side has retail along it as well at some point. The stripmall across the street needs to be torn down though with a project built up to Mill St as well, and then you'd basically have another pedestrian friendly stretch with retail on both sides added to Westport. ...

Re: East Side Development

Moving this post to this thread, more appropriate. E Side might have more success focusing on dignified micro living, from tiny home villages, micro apts along main drags and maybe even RV parks per this, tied with a free bus system. Imagine E Side pockets developed with small pad sites with utiliti...

Re: Sprint sale rumors again

Loss of Telcom jobs in KC metro since 1990, mostly due to Sprint demise (as well as decline in local/long distance employment, which was case for all the carriers). Peaked at 30K, only 4500 total telcom jobs left, so even less at Sprint. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/tA-ivG9pd-sMiWUepaeR3C8m4umX...

Re: Kansas, Missouri battle over companies

Most articles I've seen have been more about USDA employees not wanting to leave DC than specifically not wanting to move to KC. Many view that it's about breaking up research that doesn't agree with the Trump admin. Others also say that they need close ties to Congress, but isn't the case anymore w...

Would be nice if all City Market counter joints had $2-$3 small eats. Good way to sample various places for weekend visitors too.
